Merry Christmas pal

Cassetti - lol

I went to a working bee / club effort thingy before Xmas and one of the old Italian boys greets me there, and says would I like a coffee from behind the bar

Me being Anglo expoects a White 2 sugars arrangement - imagine my surprise when the smallest cup in the world comes out with 98proff coffee and the little spoon standing straight up!!!!

Anyway tasted OK and I buzzed around for an hour or two - Seems the Italians have an Ouzo type / aniseed drink of some such similar to Grappa - seems me and the President are drinking these togather as soon as the season starts

All good mate - all good

Anyone vaguely worried about the water resrictions ? I know the city of Monash have cancelled the Cricket season and have barred clubs training on their pitches.

Evil bastards !! It's our choice wheather or not our knees get scuffed up on the hard grass.

I guess I'll have to call up again and see if my club is ignoring the rules and starts training this Thursday

By the way, Ashburton are shit...

The VPL was scheduled to start Feb 10, but has been pushed back to March due to state team committments. Water restrictions for the most part will not impact the VPL clubs.

Other leagues we are deciding on next week. I have another few hundred meetings with council bodies, which will give us a clear and accurate pitcure on what will happen. For the most part, all clubs who play at coucil venues are being told to not touch their main pitches before the regular season. That means training somewhere else. Small price to pay for preserving the pitch for the stuff that counts.

There are a few possible scenarios, all to be revealed next week.

For those looking for plenty of football action with a large variety of teams including women's and juniors, that old chestnut the Hellenic Cup is starting this weekend, venues are Northcote City's John Cain Memorial Park and South Springvale's Warner Reserve. Men's teams range from VPL right down through state, provisional and amateurs, and from as far afield as Traralgon and Hobart.

how can the hellenic cup be taking place with all the water restrictions??

I've wondered this myself, but it might help that the Hellenic Cup is not an FFV sanctioned tournament. As for the local councils letting them play, don't know how the mechanics of how they've worked it out. Maybe the fact that the prizemoney last year was double that of the FFV's pre-season cup, indicates that the organisers of the Hellenic Cup have been able to pay the insurance required?

1927blue
January 12th, 2007, 10:08 AM
no insurer will touch anyone when the councils are deeming grounds unplayable and dangerous.
not as simple as just insurance though, i mean what council in victoria is actually sanctioning these games to take place -- this would make the news if there trying to play the comp on the sly so to speak -- unless you have a private set up (like white eaglles say) or have managed to fall into the amazing 25% of grounds that are exempt(mostly cricket and bowls atm), then u should'nt be on the grounds.
i hope the use of warner reserve has been permitted by council.

Tunna
January 12th, 2007, 12:54 PM
Luckily, our ground is on the exempt list, but its still shithouse at the moment.

LS 11
January 12th, 2007, 04:06 PM
Knox City Council do NOT have an excemption list!!

Only 2 turf wickets are allowed watering - EVERYTHING else is banned

Expect this to be the norm shortly

Will either mean an end to the season OR no training will be allowed

lankks
January 12th, 2007, 04:10 PM
Well, as far as I know. Water restrictions have gone out the window at Springvale City. They've been watering their pitches almost every day.

Whether the councils simply don't know or they have permits, it's out of my scope of knowledge.

Nunawading Vs Monbulk

Ended up with Monbulk winning 1-0 on a probably won of the best grounds in the state atm.

With Nuna likely going back up to State 3 thanks to Clayton folding they will struggle this year and are likely to be relegated to Prov 1.

Monbulk on the other hand look like a good chance to head back up to State 3 at the end of the season with a few good signings.

Bosto - how is la trobe looking?

LaTrobe will field much the same squad as last year, which if kept injury free will finish top half.

Bobby left after 3 seasons (his longest spell anywhere as player or coach) to coach his daughter (Eltham Ladies Premier League) but he is still around the club a bit as Eltham use our pitches to train sometimes.

New coach is John Gillispie (another scot) who used to be the coach at Diamond Valley.

On first inspection the pitch would have to be the greenest piece of grass in Victoria. However it had a fungus and has been reseeded in areas, so it is not consistant. Having said that we have nothing to complain about as the 'crap' patches are still better than what most clubs would call good at the moment. :peep:

Lat time I drove past Yarraville's pitch looked terrible.

We were scheduled to play a friendley against Keilor Park today, but their ground isnt ship shape yet. Our resembles a weed patch. Common theme everywhere right now, except La Trobe of course. Probably the best surface Ive played on over the last 3-4 years.

Good result Bosto. Did Patty play? Is ND injured yet lol?
