Bulleen continue revival with win over Knights (http://footballfedvic.com.au/storyview.php?id=514)
By Teo Pellizzeri
Tuesday 4 April 2006
Bulleen continued their good home form at the Veneto club last night, a Ricky Diaco brace the difference in a 2-1 win over the Melbourne Knights. In an open and free-flowing match, both sides finished with 10 men after the dismissals of Tommy Milardovic and Simon Bell.
It was Diaco who stole the show for the Zebras with a goal either side of half time. The first came in the 38th minute when a Chris Emsovski pass released Hamlet Armenian through the middle of the Knights penalty area. Goalkeeper Adrian Cagalj dived at the feet of Armenian, deflecting the ball into the path of Diaco, who ran past the grounded Cagalj to slot the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. Bulleen had the best chances of the first half before Diaco’s opener. Chris Emsovski coming close on two occasions with a 25 yard free kick in the 8th minute, and chip from top of the box in the 31st minute, both requiring saves from Cagalj. Goran Talevski had the Knights’ best chance of the opening half, shooting across the goal face and just wide of the far post from the top of the box in the 24th minute.
In the 43rd minute Armenian caused trouble for the Knights defense again, one-on-one at the half way line with Tommy Milardovic after Bulleen swept a Knights corner clear. Milardovic dragged down Armenian as he advanced into his attacking half, referee Louis Ceffi going by the letter of the law in giving the last defender a straight red. Diaco almost made the Knights pay before the half time break, turning Goran Talevski and blasting over the bar from 10 yards in the 45th minute.
Despite being a man down, it was the Knights who took the initiative at the start of the second half. Dario Matkovic scoring first touch with a left footed strike in the 50th minute. With the match level at 1-1 Bulleen lost Simon Bell for collecting two bookings in the 68th minute, but for the second time in the game a sending-off was the inspiration for the penalised team. Just three minutes later Ben Harbinson teed up Diaco at the top of the penalty area. Diaco attempted to lob Cagalj in the Knights goal, and despite getting a hand to the ball, the off-balance Cagalj and the ball both fell into the net to give Bulleen a 2-1 lead in the 71st minute. Favouring his left groin, Diaco was substituted soon after.
The Knights only genuine chance to equalise thereafter came in the 89th minute when Neven Antic collected a semi-cleared corner, and shot from the top of the box into the hands of Bulleen keeper Tomas Kovar. Former Perth Glory player Billy Celeski had another quick and creative game in the Bulleen midfield, while goalscorer Dario Matkovic was the pick of the Melbourne Knights players.
Diaco, in his second stint with Bulleen after a season with the Melbourne Victory, was happy to be off the mark in the 2006 Vodafone Cup. “My plan is to get back to the A-League, so it’s good to get my first couple” said Diaco. Talking through his second goal, Diaco was honest; “I was a bit off balance on the one step, after Emsovski tried it [a chip] in the first half…maybe I stole the idea off him”.
Bulleen coach Michael Michalakapoulos was pleased with the Zebras moving to fourth on the Vodafone Cup table. “We now go to George Cross full of confidence, but it’s a crazy game. If you asked me a month ago I’d have had no idea how we’d be going now” said Michalakapoulos. On the subject of Diaco’s fitness Michalakapoulos was realistic. “He’s a focal point and the boys need him. He’ll be raring to go next week”.

2 options Simon - you chose :D
1. Because I made it so
2. Cos there is no A-League football, and the off season should be about your local team (being a Manure fans, ask someone to explain the concept to you). Hence Rowville (my suburb) and Doveton (Gar' suburb) are in the same division now so we might go and watch a few of those games. Also Knox city and ex VPL team are now Sate :League so ti get there fixtures we know where they are
This thread would probably help if you ACTUALLY WENT AND WATCHED SOME LOCAL FOOTBALL (dont Willy have team, or Newport, or West Gate or Port melb???) Go on, gerroff of the computor and go and catch a game

Masterchief, please dont brag abot beating "powerhouse" watsonia heights. Mate, as a player at the senior club, i can tell you that no body is arguing the fact they arent much. For most players in that team, they have never played before. So the fact that you let them score past you is an embarrasment.
BTW - should have told me you were playing them, their would have been a target on your legs

The big one this week, after 10 years in the black & white of Brimbank, I will be lining up on the opposite side for the first time. Bitter-sweet feelings at the moment, but wont be content unless we bring home the 3 points.
This match has always been a local derby, so with 7 Avondale players coming over from Brimbank (signed another two that wont play this week), it adds extra spice. If training this week is anything to go by, then Brimbank better watch out. The intensity was unbelievable. Players even looke dthe part with our keeper decked out in Mick Ferrante's old West Ham gear, and two of our defenders in Paddy Kisnorbo's Hearts jerseys and Australian national shorts :)... Well credentialled friends of Avondale Heights FC :)

i was the keeper in the reserves (dont laugh cos i let in 6 first half goals), had to fill in as keeper, im a naturally a defender. i agree Ressa's keeper is a fuckin gun, ripped out a few top saves on the weekend against us. their defense is also very good, very quick, that dark skinned fellow was good as was the younger looking guy. in defense we didnt give their strikers a sniff and got a penalty in the last 10mins

None of those goals were really your fault. Our strikers just waltzed through your defence. But in fairness, the two we had up front would be best ressies partnership in league no doubt. Both senior regulars.

RESERVES:
Meadow Park 1 - 4 Bell Park
After conceding the first goal (1-0 at half time) the boys (meadow park) hit back after a long ball from the back managed to squirm through their defensive line and was tucked away by Matt (think thats his name, trelos? confirm?) But after that our defense turned into a shambles copping three goals and finishing the match 4-1 losers.
SENIORS:
Meadow Park 1 - 2 Bell Park
Bell Park struck first in the first half but in the second half (last 15-20 minutes) the boys worked very hard to pull a goal back only to concede a very...poor...goal. The last 15 minutes were frantic and the Parkers did manage to get one back but couldn't go all the way and get two. A good finish but our defence needs to tighten up as we have copped at least a goal every game.

yes Matty scored our equaliser, conceded 2 mins later cos their first shot hit the post and their player was lucky enough to have it bounce off him into the goals. the last 2 goals were just shit defending, their main striker was 2 big and too strong. seniors were unlucky not 2 win today, played better than bell park i thought, i beg to differ ricky i thought the defense did well, just got lazy once or twice which cost them. and yes that was me with the South jacket on tuesday, why didnt u stick around 4?

Carrum utd 3, Doveton 5 :D
That's the worst pitch after the 'Pines' (no disrepect intended) i've seen :(
By the time i got served and found my mates we were 2-0 down
however the 'doves' kept their shape and always looked dangerous, the doves midfield stamped their authority on the game and it was no surprise when they got back 2 quick goals(in fairness it should have been 4) and they
went in at 2-2.
The second half saw Carrum come out with purpose but the difference in skill levels were apparent for all to see :D 2 well worked goals and my prediction of a 2-4 win for the doves was well on track, sadly the shifty bastards got a late penalty which was superbly saved, however, they snatched one they didn't deserve and it was quickly reversed  Haven't seen other results yet but we're up there :D
I'm surprised at the high skill level i've seen at these games and would encourage folks to join their local clubs

yes Matty scored our equaliser, conceded 2 mins later cos their first shot hit the post and their player was lucky enough to have it bounce off him into the goals. the last 2 goals were just shit defending, their main striker was 2 big and too strong. seniors were unlucky not 2 win today, played better than bell park i thought, i beg to differ ricky i thought the defense did well, just got lazy once or twice which cost them. and yes that was me with the South jacket on tuesday, why didnt u stick around 4?
So you were no. 3 in the reserves?
I couldn't stay because my mum thought that I was training with my own team but because nobody showed up except for myself and jay z we had to train by ourselfs and then i thought i'd just go for a bit of a run with you guys for half an hour but i had to go home coz i told my mum 7:30.
I would've stayed if I could've.

U16:
Broadmeadows United 1 - 1 Meadow Park
The boys from broady went ahead as the Parkers defense lapsed many times and were finally punished when United hit the back of the net early. The match then got very tough with the Parkers looking for that elusive equaliser in a match that erupted into several small brawls around the ground with one player from United being sent from the park. Half-Time 1-0 United.
After the interval United burst out of the blocks launching attacks at Meadow Park but the Eagles defence stood firm thanks to wonderful perfromances by Sweeper Kenny and keeper Tim. Meadow Park started winning free kicks around the box that I attempted to blast in but kept hitting the damned wall until the Parkers one a free kcik for a shove in the back around 35 yards out from goal. I looked for Jay Z in the box but my free kcik was overhit...so overhit that it HIT THE BACK OF THE NET!! 1-1!!!! The Parkers were absolutely hysterical. The rest of the match was a slug and was a really tough battle but in the end both teams came out with a point. Then United, pissed off after losing the lead, attempted to start a fight after the match but Meadow Park were not about to stoop to their level.
A toughly faught game that has created a great rivalry.

Yeh I was about to say nobody was exceptional today except for our keeper. Everybody had the worst game I've seen them play (myself included).
By the way why are we shit? Do you know the team that we played?

What position do you play, Tunna?
Preferred possie of stopper.
Yesterday I played in the Sweeper position in a 3-5-2 formation.

He plays many positions. His primary one involves warming the pine for when the real players need a rest. He also doubles as orange cutter and water boy :D
On a serious note, must have been good to get one over your old team aye. And to thump em aswell, at brimbank ;)
BTW simon, Tunna= CB.
Hehehe yeah it was a sweet victory..........

I was at the Sunshine Market, and I remembered the game was on, so I thought I'd check it out. I got there right on kick-off, but had to go at half-time. You guys seemed to dominate territory-wise, but the finishing wasn't there. Some howlers by both keepers too, luckily for them no goals resulted. :D
And I can see why you're the capo - you don't mind giving a bit of lip. Half way through the half during a lull in play, I heard you yell out something like "It's a bit quiet out here, guys! Let's talk it up!", and someone (an opposition player?) replied "Shut up!". :D
You might have seen me, I was the fat bloke standing next to Brimbank's bench. :) I stopped the ball at the fence in the first 5 minutes.
