Manningham v Doncaster Rovers (Me)
U15 Super League, Round 1
May 07
1:45PM
Timber Ridge Reserve
Prediction: 1-1
Mannigham 1-1 Doncaster, absoloutly brilliant today, everyone put in 100% and by half time Mannigham was scared of us, they got a red with about 10 minutes left, then about 2 minutes later they scored a FREAK goal from about 30-35 yard out just infront of the circle at half way, rocketed to top corner, we kept our heads up and played our game, we got awarded a penalty with 5 minutes left, the guy that took it missed over the bar, then with about 2 minutes left redeemed himself with a left foot volley from just outside 18 yard box to level it 1-1! was like a win for us today.
Great start to the season seeing us draw 1-1 away against the Vic champions, CMON ROVERS

We lost 2-1 today. Just got back home. Although I have a bone to pick with the referee, won't blame him for our loss. We're just in need of a lot of work. An awful lot...

In addition to my previous post - I have a team full of girls that are too fragile or too precious...
Friendly vs. U/18s - "they're too rough!"
Friendly vs. U/15s - "they're too rough!"
Today's match - "they're too rough!"
FFS - harden up dammit! Or go home and do some needlework...

Eltham 2 Carlton youth 1 we won because we were bigger stronger and just as fast as the other team. Those Carlton boys one twos were excellent were but lacked the athletic side and that final ball. The team who was bigger won but in saying that our dribble etc was not terrible just not as good as the other team we can improve on our passing game because atm its just long balls to space. Overall first match good to get the 3 points!

Went down and watched the Sth Melbourne vs Endeavour match this afternoon (SMJC ground is just around the corner from me)
Sth Melbourne were quite simply unstoppable, quality side that moved the ball better than most mens sides. They could have won 6 or 7 -0 but for some poor finishing. (They won 3-0 in the end) They moved the ball with ease down both flanks and were constantly crossing the ball in.
Kind of felt sorry for Endeavour they were way out of their class.

that South team is quality. They went over to italy 2 seasons ago and beat the inter, juve and ac juniours comfortably. They went to the clarefontaine academy last season.

We have had a satisfying day.
The boy's team lost 2-0. I was told it was a pretty even game, but our side failed to take its chances. My boy was in goal, and reporting did at least one beautiful save. The two goals were due to defensive errors. The kids have a bit of work to do to figure out how to finish. (I couldn't go myself unfortunately.)
The girl's team (which I am now manager for, and which has had a traumatic preseason) put in a very pleasing performance. They listened to the coach. They kept their shape. They threw themselves into challenges. They ran. And they scored two goals, and won 2-0. A nice start to the season.
The thing I am happiest about, is that my daughter finally seems to be in a team of enthusiastic girls who are ready to try to take their skills and understanding of the game up a level.
The little one is in sub-juniors, so they haven't started yet.

Middleun- drew 0-0 despite hitting the woodwork 4 times (and the opposition got 5 yellows  )
Eldest - score draw with team of similar standard (I wasn't there!)
Not a bad day!

State Futsal Championships are going to be held on 3rd and 4th of July at Boorandara Sports Complex. Teams will be registered on a first come - first serve basis. Registration costs $250 per team and no team can have more than 10 players.
This is an excellent opportunity for young players to develop their skills and I'll be seriously looking into it for my team.

As of next week my U12s will be training twice a week instead of once. I have targeted a small pocket of land left on Tuesday nights. Tuesday night for my team will be known as "Futsal Night" where the boys rock up, warm up, stretch and play a Futsal Match (25min halfs). At least it's something and it'll help them get used to the small field for the State Futsal Championships.

Doncaster Vs. Nunawading - U15 Super League
Anderson Park (near the pines)
13th of May
1:45 Kick Off
With Us (Doncaster) have a good game and drawing 1-1 with Mannigham and Nunawading losing 6-3 at home to newly Promoted Springvale, we are looking for a dominant win this weekend...Nunawading although scoring 3 goals, conceeding 6...i have never seen Nunawading or Springvale play seeing as they are both newly promoted teams so it will be hard for me to predict this weekend...although im confident in our ability and think we should win comfortably, if Springvale can put 6 goals past Nunawading we will be looking to raise the bar and score more although i think we will win 5-0.
Prediction: Doncaster 5-0 Nunawading

Not a great outing today for Clan CLM.
U12s went to water, and shipped 7-1 against the mini-zebras. Bit disappointing, cos they really should be capable of doing better than that.
U15g played a very good first half, but were unlucky to concede against the run of play. Conceded again early in the second half, but then junior CLM managed a goal and moments later they narrowly failed to put away an equaliser. They kept fighting, but the shape was a little off by then, and they conceded a further two goals to end 4-1 down.

they will do better this week coming CLM.
my daughters side lost 2-0 but she played a good game, she likes to pass but needs to learn not to always pass, could of scored one and also played one straight to the keeper.
my sons side won 3-1 and had a great game, finally they used the diamond patterns they have been learning at training, beautiful passing but all of them got hot and tried thought the second half.
i think i got sun burnt
i am by myself this sunday coming with the under 11 girls and already know two girls will not be able to make it, hope i get a full side. :fear:

First thing i will say is FUCK...Our team was happy, we got 3 points, got our goal difference up a little bit but FUCK, the chances we missed today were amazing!!! we missed and i kid you not, 15-20 chances we would put away on a 9/10 ratio...fucking ridiculous at the end we were laughing at ourselves for missing some of these chances, other teams (South, Bulleen, Mannigham) are going to walk away with 10-15 goal margins i can tell you from now...personally played shit, apart from 2 goals i think i was still recovering from a virus, was throwing up all week, i ended up pulling myself off and throwing up half way through the first half...i cant complain to much though, 3 points and we keeped a clean sheet...Sitting 3rd on the ladder with 4pts...now we host Springvale White Eagles who are a newly promoted team...they beat Nunawading 6-3 and lost today to Bulleen 3-1.

had enough drama already this week before we even get to the pitch
Sub-juniors start this week, so Daughter 2 is to play
but where? when?
finally, we get word - Darebin 1.30
shit - how do I get back to Brunswick for 2.15 for team manager duties
but U15g may not have a pitch to play on either
when will we know?
confirmation pitch has not been released
panic
then we are told they have booked Darebin at 12.30
miracle - I can watch both games at same place, one after the other
not bad, given that they play for different clubs
just have to contact the opponent and every girl in the team and tell them the game is at a different place, hours earlier, and they need different shoes
and have to find match balls, and officials jackets
and pay the ref myself :grumblingfase:
boy has a bye
but hang-on
now boy has a friendly, in Heidelberg
ko 10.00, so they can't be back in time for us to get to Darebin by 11.45
have to organise a lift
I didn't realise being a soccer Mum was going to take more hours than the job I get paid for.

Welcome to the hell that is 'PARENT OF 3 PLAYING CHILDREN'.:juggle:
What a funny read this was CLM. It reminds me so much of the situations I have had myself in during the past 5 years or so. It often takes the patience of a Saint and the logistical planning of the US military. But you manage to do it somehow. And what a brilliant piece of luck to have 2 playing at the same venue. Enjoy - it will likely never happen again. :heh:
2 questions though:
1. Why tell them to bring different shoes to Darebin? Unnecessary.
2. Why are you paying the ref's fee? Club's responsibility.
Lizzy

When sub junior fixtures were released years ago I would devour them madly and analyse their implications for hours.
On a number of occasions I thought I struck it rich to find 2 of my boys playing at exactly the same venue. Unfortunately it would often be at exactly the same kick off time and I would find myself with a whole new problem.
I have stood on my own many times between two side by side pitches watching from one to the other. (Doesn't work - just gets you very confused) :frusty: . Sometime I chose to watch the first half of one child's game and the second half of the other.
Over time we have all learnt the art of compromise.

1. Synthetic surface. We have been told they are not to wear studs.
What do I know? Just doing what I am told.
2. We are the only team from the club playing there that day. I suppose they'll pay us back, but they told my husband to take care of it.
We are having a nightmare start to the year, with limited access to pitches, everyone paying and registering late, and the council making us organise our own watering of the pitch, which has cost a fortune.
I'm not going to make their lives harder by digging my heels in over paying the ref. They are volunteers too.

Our last outing was a logistical nightmare.
***
Had to send son off to his friendly with Dad, and organise a lift for myself and the girls, since our 'home' games had both been moved to Darebin International.
The friendly was designed as a confidence booster for a team that should have the ability to do better than they have. It duly delivered a 4-1 win to us, and my boy had a lazy day in goals.
Their coach had taken an interesting tack at training last Friday - after a rather shambolic performance the week before, with a defence like a colander, he told them they needed to learn to be more physical and aggressive. So they spent the whole session playing rugby.
***
U15 girls is my own personal Calvary, saddled as I am with all the administrative detail, and making sure that everything goes smoothly.
We arrive at Darebin to find that there is no record of our booking. Luckily there is a pitch free, and we line up a change-room.
Next we find no ref has showed up, and at this point I am told that it is the home team's responsibility to find one. Ie ME. Farkin.
The away coach is terribly helpful and understanding. We agree to put my husband on as ref - he has never reffed before, but at least he knows which way to point to award the ball, which is more than you can say for a lot of the parents in the team. We don't even have a whistle - I have to borrow a whistle from the away coach, and give a spare t-shirt to the linesman to use as a flag.
Once the game gets underway, we are fine, except that the away coach reckons we are playing 35 minutes halves, and all our previous games have been 30. But we deal with that amicably too.
On the pitch, we are playing against the top of the table so far team, and they have scored about 10 goals already for the season. We perform well against them. The sides look fairly evenly matched everywhere except at the pointy end, where we have not really figured out how to take a shot yet, and they get off at least 6. But our keeper is in unusually good form, and saves all but 1 of them.
The final 1-0 scoreline seems like a fair outcome.
***
And we finally get to the debut of daughter no.2 playing in the Pink league - U10 girls.
They run around the tiny pitch in a pack, as beginners do. They are really cute. Our striker sits down and plays with the grass while play is up the other end - the runs like the wind when the ball comes to her feet.
The tiny goal they are aiming for seems unfairly small. Strange how they go straight from too little to too big. The mini-Amazons they are playing score 3 to our nil - but hey who's counting.
***

Next we find no ref has showed up, and at this point I am told that it is the home team's responsibility to find one.
Not unusual. Two of our three games this season we have had no ref. Whistle, stopwatch, flags all vital equipment in the matchday coaches bag.
BTW lost 2-1.

Once the game gets underway, we are fine, except that the away coach reckons we are playing 35 minutes halves, and all our previous games have been 30. But we deal with that amicably too.
He's right. U15s are 35 minutes. It's all in the FFV rules and regulations (http://www.footballfedvic.com.au/competitions/rulesregs) which, as a team manager, are worth looking at.

don't worry CLM we had four home games on the weekend and NO ref for any of those games.
my son played against springvale white eagles and one of our boys knocked over their smallest player (he did not mean it) but also won the ball and then two of the parents run onto the ground yelling abuse at our player (he is a big boy but he did win the ball). after the game some of the parents made a point of telling us that we have to play at their ground too and that we better watch out, one of the mums run up to the boy from our team and told him that they will get him when he comes to their home game, so now we have to put in a complaint to FFV just incase something does happen at their home game, as it was very ugly. :help:
we ended up winning and then found out that some of the boys that played for springvale white eagles also play in their super league team, so no wonder the parents were not happy as we won 1-0. and by the way this was an Under 14 boys game.:noidea:
at least their coach was good about it and tried to stop his parents, he understood that it was all about the size of our boy and their boy that caused the problem.
on a happier note i coached my first Under 11 girls game by myself and only 11 girls turned up but their played great and draw 0-0.:becky:

6th Endeavour Vs. Doncaster Rovers 4th
Date: Sunday 27th May
Kickoff: 1:45 pm
Place: Reema Reserve, Stacey Court,Endeavour Hills,91 H3
Well after us coming off a 2-2 draw on Sunday we all no how much that cost us and it was 2 points dropped rather than 1 point gained...Endeavour are coming off an 8-0 win against Nunawading Away from home on sunday so it looks like they could be in some form...we are desperate for the 3 points this sunday and we are going to go out and throw everything at the Endeavour defence.
Prediction: Endeavour 0-1 Doncaster Rovers

My lot had 3 out of 3 losses.
The boy did a sterling job in goals as his team went under the pump to the ladder leader, but they went down 4-2.
The little girl was pleased with getting a couple of touches in her second ever game.
The big girl scored for her team in the first ten minutes. They held the lead til half time, but conceded an equaliser early in the second. They went on to lose 2-1 after giving away a penalty when the lass who normally keeps goal instinctively put her hands to the ball.

well in my 3 years of playing football, i've never played in such a good game as i had on sunday.
for the first couple of matches of the season, i've played in goals, but started this game at left-back. we conceded a very soft goal early on, poor marking from a free kick, and the score stayed at 1-0 til there was ten minutes left in the second half. we had a free-kick on the corner of our attacking box, it bounced off someone and went up in the air towards me at the far post, i nodded it in but clashed heads with a defender at the same time, so i didn't know i scored. everyone was celebrating with me, but i'm like: "what happened?"
so it's 1-1 with about ten seconds left, and we had a corner; it was going in without taking any touches, but a defender put up his hand and blocked it, so there was a red card and penalty. penalty slotted away, then the ref blows the final whistle!
it was very satisfying to win like that, now we're second on the table and we haven't played the 1st team yet, looking good for a shot at the league.

Morning started with an expedition by father and son to some place far away. Father left his thermos on the bench.
Team conceded two goals. One went sailing over his head at an impossible height for a 12 year old. The other was one of those scrappy situations with too many players in the box, and the goalie can't get to the ball.
I'm feeling a bit sorry for this team. They were pretty successful last year, and got promoted. Now it is looking like they were promoted a bit out of their league, and they are having to cope with the demoralisation of losing all the time. They have a few skills, and they should be able to do a little better than they are. But they seem to be finding it hard to make the emotional shift required. Poor kids.
Final result was 2-0.
Our suggestion - one of the better players is being put in an attacking role, and being left with not enough to do. Move him to midfield.

Next excursion of the morning was to take the girl in the pink league over the Darebin.
She is enjoying all of this immensely. She has a new team tracksuit.
She occasionally touches the ball. She 'nearly' got a shot off at goal.
This time, her team won - 1-0.

Meanwhile, I have discovered that I left the match book and registration cards and stuff in the car, which has gone to Darebin.
I walk up to the ground with the third child, ringing himself every 25 steps.
Bastard doesn't answer the phone.
Big panic. Will the ref let us get away with supplying it later, when the bag arrives with the rest of the family?
Worry about recedes when we realise we do not in fact have an official ref.
Now the worry is where to get one. My man did it last time, but he is still stuck in Darebin. No-one else among our parents would have be able to (except our coach). We only have 3-4 atm who can even manage the lines.
We ask around the club. All the other coaches, team managers and club officials turn us down. Everyone is crippled or has a heart condition.
Finally, we resort to asking the away team. They agree on condition we promise they will not be attacked by hordes of angry albanians. We can deliver on that.
Then I have to spend another 15 minutes getting the club officials to give me flags, match balls (they can only find one, cos the ref for the game in progress took 3 for his match), and a whistle.
Wouldn't you think there might be a stash of whistles? Wouldn't you think there might be a kit of stuff ready for a team manager to grab if the ref does not appear?
Apparently, we are supposed to have our own whistles, supplied by us. Spontaneously, without anyone suggesting it. Apparently, our coach is supposed to use a whistle to control the girls during training. Given that we have been training in an area not much bigger than a living room, we haven't really felt a need for a whistle yet.
My blood pressure is through the roof by the time they kick off.

Anyway, the game goes well enough.
They lose again, but that is not what it is about yet for us.
We are playing the team second on the ladder, who have been together since last season, and have put away scads of goals. We reckon they are probably hoping for better than the 3-1 they manage against us.
Our defence is our best feature. We have a couple of girls who are really switched on and strong. Our scatty goalie is doing better than we expected too, though she was not at her best this day.
The best part of our game was managing a quick equaliser moments after they open the sheet. My daughter provides the assist.
We concede again in the dying moments of the first half - often a weak point. Their second goal is beautiful. We are really outclassed by this team. Nevertheless, we manage a couple of good build ups, and keep trying, even after they score another to go 3-1.

Well with me it's a hygiene thing. I take my own whistle everywhere I go (just in case) and the only others who get to use it are my husband and sons.
In time CLM, your car boot will resemble mine and others who coach or manage juniors. (Everything but the kitchen sink................just in case.);)

Because (he told me) his son had played Albanians the day before at home, and some of the parents appeared not to have subscribed to the 'parent code of conduct' and gave the ref heaps.

Other things which I put in the bag are warm-up balls, spare socks, shorts, shin pads and goalies gloves (not unknown for kids to forget one of these), towel, blanket, roll of electrical tape, drink bottle, team list (with phone numbers), fixture list and copy of the Junior Rules of Competition (most common dispute is over how many minutes to play, particularly in the first few weeks).

Check the FFA website. I think Telstra takes Junior club applications for coaching kits a couple of times during the year.

Maybe I should add the hair ties. A couple of the U15 boys could use them!
Telstra were giving away that gear to clubs that applied last year as part of their assistance fund (http://www.telstraassistancefund.telstra.com). Not offering anything atm but you should keep an eye on it.

We had a lovely day yesterday, once I sorted the logistics of 3 simultaneous games in different parts of the city.
U12 boy had two games. His team won their first of the season 1-0.
He also kept for the Bs who had been left high and dry by the total collapse of their opposing team, and so played a friendly. They got pasted.
Little girl played at Fawkner Park. All their games til now have been on little pitches with tiny goals. All of a sudden this one was on a nearly full size pitch. No warning. Their coach was trying to show them where to stand. But of course as soon as the whistle blew, they all clumped together like so much fairy floss. Must have been funny to watch, but I wasn't there.
Big girls were in Sandringham, where the pitch at the Secondary College was undersized, but free of wind, nice surface, balmy weather. No dramas. Both sides had their chances. 0-0 draw. Everyone happy. We played better - the girls are learning with each week. No major boo-boos.
We probably should have beaten them really, except that our girls need to learn how to shoot.

i first make sure that all girls play both halfs, and then because they only play 20min halfs i sub at the 10min mark. if the girls did not turn up to training they start on the bench, if they are not listening i then sub again at 15mins to have a one on one with the girl so when she goes on in the second half she knows what i want her to be trying.
i find that it must be working as i have had parents tell me that they like the way i do the subbing, also the girls are learning and still enjoying the game too. (+ we are winning alot too :third: )
does not matter if you have one that stands out, she still should be subbed, and if one girl is not doing so well, she should not be on the bench all the time, as i do think the more this girl plays she will learn and get better. :becky:

I found as I moved up the age groups (started coaching arabjunior's U8 team and have stayed with them up to U15 this year) that my approach has evolved. In the sub-juniors it was focussed on giving everyone equal time; as they get older and develop skills in positional and tactical play it is more about maintaining team balance.
I think that as the kids get older they expect not to be treated equally. They will start saying things like "Why did you take Jimmy off, he's our best player?"
BTW we won again at the weekend 3-1.

our coach generally tries to sub at the half way, and in batches
but with a few early games he was subbing 4 at a time, and it was too disruptive to the play
he now seems to be drifting towards doing them in pairs

i think i will find it very hard to let go, and go back to just being the assistant of the coach :hurt:

After much daydreaming, talent identification and thinking I have come up with a huge idea which I will be starting in the next couple of weeks at Meadow Park.
Sunday morning, Tonight and Thursday night I will be looking around the younger teams at the club, shortlisting players to participate in the "Meadow Park Youth Development Program" Nickname: Academy. I will only choose ten of the very finest at the club to have one day extra of training (Saturday Morning) teaching them advanced drills, techniques and skills.
I am really looking forward to working with such a high quality bunch of players. I even have little certificates lined up for the boys that make it in :D

gives the kids a chance aat developing better skills.
