excellent idea. that is the kind of thinking lacking in football in this country, not just at a junior level either.

gives the kids a chance aat developing better skills.

what age groups are you talking here? perhaps the u/8's are still a little young for that competitive atmosphere? :noidea:

ceratainly i would have said 12 or 13 y.o or more

12 Years and under. I'm hoping it will become something that the kids will aim for and strive to get into. They'l start pushing themselves, training more and getting better just so that they can get in next year.

U10 girls drew one all, but the goal for us was actually an own goal.

U12 boys lost 3-0; the coach said my boy played his best game yet.

U15 girls won 3-1; my lass did not score this time, but did a good job shepherding one of the goals through.
She is now doing some good runs into position that will be useful when the rest of the team learns how to back her up. I am pleased with how things are going with this team; some of them still have to learn basics, but there is a little bit of knowledge there now that some of them can use to try to take their play up to the next level. Last year her ball skills were improving, and her tackles were improving, but she had no opportunity to learn to pass cos there was so little team work.

My young cousin has been going really well in his first season playing football. I am going to take the credit for making him learn to juggle and join in our games of hacky sack etc when he was a toddler.

This is my 8th year coaching juniors and I don't think in all that time that I've ever been so cold and wet. Took until about 6pm before I felt warm. Drew 1-1.

my under 11 girls lost 3-1, bad defending cost us one goal, bad goalkeeping cost one goal (goalie just laughed as ball slowly went over line, all the other girls tried hard to stop it but goalie was the closest) and they got a penalty because one of the other teams players fall over in the box (funny thing noone else was near her, not even her players, not even the ball). one of my players got hammered and we got a free kick, took the free kick while the other teams parents were yelling out to the ref that it was their free kick then the referee blow his whistle and gave the free kick to them (omg). mind you my girls did not play good and did not deserve to win, but i could not believe how many times it went against us and also how many times the referee chanced his mind on whos ball it was :yell: :dizzy:

my sons (under 14 boys) team lost 2-1 but they played great (should of won), my son got player of the match. having trouble with their defence too but coach has it all sorted out (wish i could say the same for the under11 girls) :o
oh well can't win them all :pout: . one more game until the real coach gets back from the UK, hopefully the girls play well this sunday and then can show him what they have learnt

Good God

How have I missed 300 odd posts on the main topic of my social life atm :o

Our mob, Knox United have started off 3 new teams this season U8's U9's and u10's as we as our est U12's. and yours truely gets to be the "Junior Co-ordinator" as wellas Coach of the U8's

Just read what "kvelling" means, and can i see what had it in spades on Sunday. U9's missing 2 players played a 2-1 loss but the goal they scored was only the 3rd of the season and right in front of the home crowd / clubhouse - HUGE applause and the visiting team, Ashburton, even clapped and cheers (respect to Ahburton club)

Under 12's played a cracking game Vs top side BoxHill Inter - evenly matched side and a 2-1 loss wasnt a true indication. This side has 10 players that have never played before!!!

The the Mighty Knox Crocs, coming after a 12 goal pounding last week, we were 2-0 down at 1/2 time to North Caulfied. Second half we asked them to shoot if they had a chance and not "walk' the ball in (ala Merrick in his first season)
Anyway we have a 6yo lad, 2 years younger than anyone else, and this week we played him as a striker (they rotate each week) anyway he gets the ball on half way beats the fender and shoots from outside the circle. Anyway the kids saw what it looked like and did the flood gates open for a 4-2 win. My daughter was keeper and let 1 goal in (unstoppable) and had only 1 save to make
Kvelling may refer to the parents, but the coach was awfully chuffed

We had played the late KO so we had the Seniors and Reserves turn up for their match and watched the 2nd half - we would have had over 70 folk watching this game

Oh and God it was cold

Hee hee, welcome to the 'brag about your kids' section, Pete!:yo:

Our youngest had a bye yesterday so we all got a sleep in, YAY! :whoo:
9 am kickoffs every week are the pits!:(

Middlin had a 1-1 draw in a tense and spiteful (that was just the psycho opposition parents) game where 1 of our goals was disallowed and my son had a penalty saved by the keeper. (First 1 he has ever not converted).
Our linesman spat the dummy at the disallowed goal and threw the flag. I scrambled to find another parent to do it but surprise, surprise, they all were injured, busy or hiding so I jumped the fence and did it myself. (for 5minutes till 1 Dad changed his mind and relieved me).

Eldest played a confident and skilful game in a frustrating 0-0 draw in the miserable cold and rain. Hubby came home wet from the hips down. :rain: :rain:

Advice request

My eldest is rather slight (she is 14, about 5', 49kg). She is strong, and plays courageously. She is frustrated in her game at the moment, because she cannot get enough power or accuracy into her passes and shots.

Since she just does not have the weight to put behind them, is there anyway she can improve her power on the ball? Is there kicking technique she could be working on?

(btw, welcome Pete - there are plenty of other kvelling coaches here)

LS 11

On the power - its not down to wieght - its down to two things:
1 momentum - the speed at which she is striking the ball, and
2 Follow thru or the kicking "thru the ball"

The only strength area she might bnned to work on is her "core" strength

I agree with LS11 about kicking, you dont have to be a big build of a person to kick with power.
It sounds to me that her technique is incorrect quite possibly she is not kicking the ball in the correct way.
Being only 14 she has plenty of time to learn but you need to get somebody to look at how she is stricking the ball as once she learns the correct technique, she will slowly get all the timing etc right and the power will come.
Inaccuracy can be attributed to technique as well but could be the case of trying to get extra power like in golf where she may pull or slice the ball and doesnt go in the direction desired.

I am looking for a mid-week practice game over the next few weeks. Best result would be a Wednesday night at your club (as we dont have adequate lighting) or playing at Darebin.

I coach an Under 13 team and also a Under 15 Super League side. Am looking for a game against both.

If interested, PM me for further details.

Unbelievable performance this morning away at Lalor United.

The opposition was an undefeated team and after two byes in a row we were sitting bottom (on goal difference).

We conceded a poor goal in the last minute of the first half. They had a corner and one of their players handballed in our area so all of my players left it and they just toe-poked it in. Second half we pressured them and had so many chances. Finally, in the last 5 minutes my 3 Academy boys combined to score an absolutely wonderful goal and send the parents into wild celebrations.

Fantastic result for the boys who really are improving. Gone are the days where we would lose 11-0.

Congratulations. That's the most pleasing thing as a coach; seeing the kids improve over the season.

We won 4-2, with arabjunior scoring two. He was really pissed off that he was benched for the last five and didn't have a chance for a hat-trick.

Knox Crocs kept their first clean sheet in a 5-0 win. Poor keeper (ours) touched the ball once in 2nd half and that was for a goalkick

4 teams this year, we are having 2 goalkick programs before next season kicks off and we are planning on 7-8 junior teams

Big day for kvelling yesterday.

Brought all the cousins to see the 12 yo - two are visiting from Greece - in a home game. He conceded one - defender stepped out of the way to let the ball past him, my boy knocked it back, but no-one managed to clear it, and they ended up getting around him. Later in the game, a boy with a real bit of speed who has finally been moved up to the front scored his first goal. So they finished on a 1-1 draw.

No. 3 had a bye.

The highlight of the day was the away challenge for the U15 girls.

Seven of our squad were away on a school trip, so we only had 10 girls max. They all showed up. Coach revved 'em up. Said they could make up for the missing player if they all put in an extra 10%. And they did. They really stepped up. It was great to see them all making the extra effort, calling to each other, chasing the balls down, throwing themselves into challenges, refusing to concede the ball.

We went into half time 1-0 up. I would have been happy with that. We were playing on a very choppy, bouncy pitch, our 1 against their 11 and a sub plus they had recruited the best player from the previous game. Our girls were going to be tired.

But they went on to score twice more, and came home with their second win a row - unprecedented - and a 3-0 scoreline.

my son's team lost again :( that makes it four in a row, should of won again as they played fantastic (but someone has to lose) 3-2 loss against Casey Comets.
my second last game as coach of the Under 11 girls, they had a great game ended up winning 5-0 with my little girl scoring two goals. the team played as a team and most of the girls passed the ball beautifully.
last game as coach for me is this sunday coming, against Richmond. hoping to have a bit more say in the team when the coach gets back from the UK, girls are happy and thank god the parents are too :)
i have loved coaching and wish i did it sooner, maybe one day i will coach my niece (she is only 6 at the moment).

Our U12 boys are away to the Royals today.
Bit of a grudge match, cos their goalie was our goalie last year. Will be tough for us. Expecting my boy to get a thorough work out in goals.

U10 girls playing in Oakleigh, but not sure who they are versing.

U15 girls are at home to Glen Waverley - the last unknown of the season before we go back to the beginning again.

Disgraceful performance today.

It almost seemed like my defence didn't have brains today, they all crowded over to one side leaving 3 open attackers in the middle. I've never seen it happen.

We lost 4-0 to the bottom side at home. Disgusting.

After talking up my u14 boys being able to beat the top team I was a bit disappointed to come away with a 1-0 loss this afternoon.
Good points were that we showed them that our table position is unjust should be right up there but if you dont score the goals you cant win the game.
Cant belive I rotated all players exept 1 through the bench trying to get a bit of spark.
Half way mark of the season I am hopeful of still finishing in the top few just need to score more goals.
My boy played well again today starting to read the play a lot better.
Girl scored her 9th goal in 9 games in under 11's wish she was bit bigger and older could solve my problems in boys team.

Gloom and doom rather than kvelling here. Put together our worst performance of the season against the top team and accordingly got thumped 5-0. Not being able to train last week because of the weather didn't help.

Just to prove that winning isn't everything, we had a very happy and fulfilled weekend of games that did not involve any winning at all.

U12 boys were going up against the top side, and were expecting a thumping. They conceded 3 goals in the first half, but they were not shambolic. In the second half, they rallied round and played pretty well, pressing their claims a few times, getting off a couple of shots and hitting the woodwork a couple of times. They did not score - the final balance was 3-0. But they have a history of falling apart when they are behind, so the fact that they played with a bit of grit, even though they were in a pretty hopeless position was very pleasing. I was glad to see how all the parents congratulated them after the game, and were very pleased with their performance.

U10 girls worked hard for a 0-0 draw.

U15 girls faced a more established team higher up the ladder, and the last of the season's unknowns. They had several pretty classy players, and we had to stay focussed. We held our own pretty well. Went into the break 1-0 down - one of our defenders had slipped over in full chase, and the opposition quickly exploited our weakness and slipped one in.

In the second half, we totally dominated possession, but had trouble getting past their sweeper. Then they scored a second, totally against the run of play. With about 20 to go, we managed to get one in. The tempo heated up for the last 15 minutes, as we looked for the equaliser to snatch a draw, and the opposition got increasingly agitated. They also had a couple of chances, including one farcical moment when our keeper muffed a save and the ball bounced around outside the box for what seemed like an age, before one of our girls finally managed to clear it. Towards the end, their coach was roaring at the ref to call time.
Final result was a 2-1 one loss, but I don't think anyone felt gloomy about it.

2 main ways of getting sponsors for junior sport:

If any parents own or have senior positions in businesses try and get them on board
Approach local businesses and ask them (hard work and lots of knock-backs)

My youngest had another good win (5-0) on the weekend and his squad is still undefeated (had a couple of draws though). Whilst not amongst the goalscorers he made a hero of himself kicking off the line twice on Sunday.

Middlin had a 1-0 win over a close rival and was the rock in the centre of defence letting nothing through. His strikers had 3 or 4 good chances but only managed to convert 1. The team is mid table but starting to play better last few weeks.

Eldest on the bench for ressies again and requiring lots of self-esteem boosting at the moment.

Husband off to US and Europe for 2 weeks early on Sunday morning so I'll be struggling on my own to get the boys to training and matches as usual till he returns. Hubby also coaches the youngest so it will be interesting to see how they manage without him for training and 2 games.

Youngest had a draw with difficult opposition so Coach (in LA at moment,) will be satisfied with that. Still haven't lost a game. Junior had a great second half but has been slow to get going all season. Just never involved much first half. Solutions anyone?

U13's won 2-0 so they're back on the up again. Junior was the standout at the back and I thought he was headed for MOM till he embarassed himself trying to head a low ball clear and actually ducked under it. The striker ghosted in behind him and took off for goal - luckily his shot went wide. Defence is hard on kids. Make a blunder somewhere else and it's forgotten quickly. Our other central defender did a similar thing with an attempted clearance - missed it completely and let their No 9 through. Again nothing came of it but had the opposition scored in these two instances their heads were gonna roll. Anyway it all ended well and both could laugh about it later.

U21's had a postponement.

Had to make a mammoth effort to meet our game commitments this week.

We were away for the weekend, in Shoreham. U12 was playing at 10.00 in Epping. U15 was playing at 12.15 in Vermont South. U10 in Carnegie.
Logistical nightmare.

We ended up getting one of the other Dads there to get up at 6.00 to take our boy and his two back to Brunswick - dropped our lad off at the coach's house for a lift to the game. I woke up every hour all night in my anxiety to make sure I did not sleep in.

I never would have thought we would get to a point where we could not miss a game. But he is the goalie - and there is no-one else even half-way able to take his place. And the team is getting thumped regularly.
Somehow, it seemed we would be letting them down too much if we did not get him to the game.

They lost 4-0. His game report 'First shot...hit me in the nuts..that hurt....'.

U10 was told she would have to miss the game, so Carnegie was off the list.

U15, we had to pack up the camp and do our share of the cleaning, then head inland for over an hour to Vermont South to play against Whitehorse.
They beat us 4-1 last time, though we had looked like we might come back just after after time when it was 2-1 and we were attacking well.

It was not to be, alas. They took us 2-0 this time. But it was an entertaining game, and both sides had chances. They played better team work than us and had a couple of good players - a great defender, a good striker, and their goalie was one of the better ones in the comp. We had our second choice goalie in for the first half, and we may not have copped the first goal if our first choice goalie had not asked for a run on the pitch.

The highlight of the game was when we copped the last goal on the last ball before the whistle. Our goalie went for it in a full body dive into a massive pool of mud. She didn't quite get there in time to nail it, but she certainly gave a shot. Good lass.

So did we.

We were well outclassed - this team has won every game of the season, and they have strikers. We had two key mid-fielders out, as well.
We conceded four in the first half, and didn't manage any attack.
Was pleased to see the girls dig in for a better second half though - they only conceded one in that half, and spent a reasonable amount of time in our half attacking, getting off a couple of shots.
Good to see them not just collapse.

The boy had a bye, so he went and helped out the U14Bs to a major 8-0 thumping.

The little did some exciting attacking runs - she might even score when she learns to shoot.

Youngest had a good 2-0 win and put in good performances in both halves (unlike his usual pattern). Out tackled kids twice his size.

Middlin also won 2-0 against a good side who beat them 3-1 first round. Both goals were set pieces aided by a strong wind. The first was a free kick 10 metres outside the box. Nice goal. The second was a corner taken by the same lad - the wind took it right over everybody's head and neatly under the crossbar.

My nephew kicked his first goal this season in a 6-0 win.
He plays U10s in a Christian Saturday morning league where the overall standard is very low with well meaning coaches mostly from gafl and thugby backgrounds. As I'm not his parent, I can only advise but my sister places religion above football.
In all their games they have dominated possession and kept the opposition pegged in their half thanks to 4 players and my nephew who have good ball control and able to combine some good passing passages. However they do struggle to convert their chances
They also dominated possession in their only loss for the season to a team that played long balls to their ultra fast strikers.
I sent their coach that tape Fozzie had in his article with that Brazilian guy comparing football in USA to Brazil and he just shrugged it off with a comment like some good points were made.
I'll keep encouraging him and his team mates as I have done all season.

Anyhow, end of my rant for now. Cheers Guys... and Gals:smile:

Bummer ^^

U15s had a win this weekend, and the daughter scored a goal. 2-1 it was - so we rocket two places up the ladder to 5th. Not likely to go higher, but that is creditable.

U12s continue the string of losses, going down 3-0 to the second team on the table. I suspect they have lost a striker at some point. Can't believe they can have won games last year with this line up.
My boy had to cop to causing one of the goals when he fumbled a catch, and someone was there to pick it up.

Little one had another bad day - the U10s keep having their opponents appear with only 7 players. Our lot sportingly agree to play with 7 too, but the trouble is that the kids don't understand well enough yet to be flexible about position, so they just fall apart.

- the U10s keep having their opponents appear with only 7 players. Our lot sportingly agree to play with 7 too,

That's really lovely, and sporting, and teaches kids great values about fair play and sportsmanship, and integrity.

I have this really guilty (by association) memory of my son's U10 season where we visited a team who had only 7 and our Coach would not concede even 1 player, (when he could have even lent them 2 and had spare). So 7 played 11 and I found myself quietly barracking for the opposition. We hammered them of course but the only one who enjoyed the victory was the Coach.:nono:

Almost forgot my own kids this week:

My youngest: Still with no losses this season -first played third. It was a funny game. The opposition pinned us down in our own half for over 10 minutes and could have had 4 or 5 goals but for our fantastic goalkeeper and some wayward shooting. Then our boys got their first move across the halfway line and it resulted in a goal (TOTALLY AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY). Under attack for most of the remainder of the half we scored another. Went in at halftime shaking our heads in disbelief at a 2-0 lead. The boys played much better second half and took control of the game. Scored another close to the end of time for a 3-0 win.

U13: Also first v third but we are the challengers here, not the leaders. Resulted in a 1-1 draw - pretty fair result. Both sets of supporters blaming the referee at the end of the game. I think he got it right 95% of the time.

Eldest not named for the U21's squad so played with the 16's. Had a great game and enjoyed his football - so happy here.

Yes they are a rarity.
Too many coaches think that it is a waste to play talented players in defence.
Our U11 Coach (my husband) actually still rotates the boys around to learn all positions and they are becoming very versatile. But some kids just shine in some possies don't they?

Four games today.

Boy played U12 and U14. They put him in goals both times, and I am a bit peeved at that, cos the plan was for him to get a run on the pitch for the second game.
Lost 2-0 both games.

Little girl's team managed two goals this week. Step up. (The other side scored more, but the point is that we actually scored.)

Big girl had another tough match against the team second on the ladder. They really had to work today, in fierce cold and rain and wind. Ran their legs off. Went down 3-0. But also played some great passages. The team could really use a striker.

Youngest played the bottom side and had an easy 8-0 win. My son had a good game but he is a bit dirty with 1 or 2 players around him who always choose to take on a couple of players rather than pass to him. Has been simmering for a couple of weeks, - left it with the Coach to handle.

Middlin also coincidentally played the bottom side in his league and won easily 5-0. My son and a couple of other key players were rested whilst some of the fringe players got full games this week. Credit to the Coach for doing this, you don't see it too often in Super League.

:clap:Delighted to say that my 15 year old started for the U21's and played a full game. :thumbup:He had a solid consistent game so hopefully he'll get more chances.

i am having the same problem at the moment with my daughter, she plays striker with one other child and this child runs all over the field to get the ball and take on three or four players to try and score, needs to pass it. my daughter last weekend was in a great postition lots of times to receive the ball but she never got it, she only had about 6 or 7 touches in the whole game. if she is not going to be used as a striker then i would rather she was in a different postition so she was learning more about the game.
i spoke to the coach on sunday about getting the strikers to work on passing more and staying up front to receive the ball.
so hopefully it all works out and they start working together. :balloon:

oh they also won again - it was a forfeit against one of the bottom teams, they only had 7 players and we gave them a choice to forfeit and play a friendly or play 7 against 11. so we ended up playing a friendly and putting four of our players on their team. we asked the girls who wanted to help them out and go on their team and i was surprised at how many girls put their hands up to go on the other team. it was also good to see how the girls go in different postitions.
my sons team lost again 4-2, against the second top team but played a great game. i was very happy to see a team/club that not only play well but are very disciplined. the coach did not have to say much on the sidelines and the players did not yell at all, not like most of the teams my son has played.
i do hope they win the league.

We had TWO wins yesterday.
I think that is unprecedented.

Both girls won, and both played crucial roles in the victories.

Little one was very proud of their 1-0 win and her part in it - she took a corner, slotted it in front of the striker, who had a clear run to a neat shot. She is U10, so this kind of thing is very rare for them.

Big girl was up against a team they drew to last time round. They dominated so much, the ball hardly crossed the centre line. They attacked and attacked - sent balls wide and over. Finally my girl got a scrappy ball into the net in the second half.
They nearly did an appalling own goal late in the game - the opposition were even claiming a back pass. But they held on for a 1-0 win. And back to 5th on the ladder.

Boy's team has sunk even further. Their playmaker was mauled by his uncle's dog, and is out for the rest of the season. They went down 2-0 to the only team they had beaten all season. Copped a penalty for one of the hand-balls where someone kicks it into you, and you don't get your hands out of the way fast enough. Bit rough to pay penalties for 12 yo on those imo. Boy is carrying a virus, and came home rather down.

I sent 2 kids up to our U9's who have been struggling for numbers of late and we have 14 regulars for 8 places (this is U8's)

So as soon as I tell these 2 to play for u9's, I get:
2 calls of sicks cant make it
2 dont turn up on the day (belated e-mail from one mum later on in the day)

So we have 8 max, no subs - which means playing full game time for those that are cos well I dont know why they're here but they turned up!!!

Anyway - We lost 2-1, daughter hit the post!!! and she shared MOTM with another lad so overall Im reasonably happy!!!

Well my youngest finally lost his first game for the season. :sad1: Beaten 2-1 by the 5th placed team on Sunday they have dropped to 2nd on the ladder and will play the team that has gone to 1st in the final round of the season. Should be a great game!

Middlin's team had a good win and have moved into 2nd. I don't think they will catch the top team though as they need to rely on others to take points from them.

Eldest helped out the U16's and played well. He set up the 3rd goal with a defence splitting ripper pass which the striker then neatly put away. Exciting 1 goal win over a competitive side.

At the end of it i found out that she got to touch Danny Allsopp. On the right shoulder. At only 3 yo, she was ECSTATIC! Eyes about to pop out, big smiles, shaking arms. She was in heaven! Her dad was obviously building it up for her on the way home, but she couldn't wait to tell me.

Ok, guess ya had to be there, but if i only had a camera on me the face would have been great as my avatar.

Lost 2-1 to one of the top two teams. We missed 3 or 4 chances early on and could easily have won.

Almost every game the boys have a 5 minute spell somewhere along the line where they completely lose concentration and the team shape disappears. Bloody kids!!

Full of praise this week for my boys team they played a great game against local rivals Langwarrin on a ground that COWS would not even graze on.
Hard fought game ended with a 3-1 win, must have been the good coaching (LOL).
Disagusted with the Langy parents expected more from this well respected club, some of the things said to 13 year old boys was deplorable.

Victory song went down a treat best win of the season by far, missing three starting players will they start next week??

My Girls team did not fair to well losing 3-2 in a hard fought tussle which could have gone either way, team gone off rails since Philly 09 stopped and let original coach take back over.
Two games left I might get to sleep in again.

Another week of two out of three wins.
We'll be getting swelled heads before long.

U15 were up against a team they are evenly matched with on paper - both mid-table. This turned out to be true on the pitch as well. They had more chances and shots than we did, but our goalie saved us. We had a few chances, and the girls are at least taking more shots now. But their aim is woeful.
However, a fabulous free kick from us close to the goals saw the ball curve up over the wall, over the keepers uplifted arms, and safely into the net. So we took home the 3 points.

We can't go any higher up the ladder - there are two power-house teams at the top, and another two that have had twice as many wins as us. But we look like we could have a mortgage on fifth place. If we can at least get one win out of the last two games, we will finish the year with the same number of losses as wins/draws. That is ok.

The turn-up of the day was a 3-2 win to the U12 boys. This team has been getting thumped all year, and were facing a team well up the ladder. But the other guys showed up short-handed, and our team finally found a bit of the team work that has eluded the demoralised ranks all year.

They were so happy.

Little one went down 3-0 to one of the few teams they had beaten in round one. All the other teams in this groups have improved more than our lot. Bit disappointing.

Most importantly we got Krispy Kremes to turn up with vouchers and free donuts YESSSSSSS!!!!!!

A great day had by all

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Weekend just gone the Mighty Knox Crocs (U8's) took on the might of Stonnington City who touched us up last time to the tune of a lazy 11-0
This was due to the fact tha James Hirds kids play for Stonny and all our kids couldnt get their eyes off him!!!
BTW His kids are all very good players
Anyway, we drew 1-1 this time and played all over them - We actually scored their goal for them defending a corner. The young lad defending the post was too scared to head the ball so he tried to kick it - all the way up there in the air - ended up being the best bicycle own goal I will ever see

Our last game is this week (bye in last round) so half will play Under 9's these 2 weeks as well

Haven't posted here for a while.

Lizzyland update:
Youngest had a bye last week. Playing at home tomorrow then away for the final round where it will be 1 v 2 for the title (providing they both win tomorrow).

Middlin had a good 3-0 win over team they drew with last time. All 3 goals scored in the second half against the wind. By the end of the game they were clearly outclassing the opposition and hopefully they are hitting their straps at the right time of the season. After overtaking the top team two weeks ago they have set their sights firmly on the championship. One point ahead, they need to win their last 2 games (against 8th and 9th) to win the league. (Unless second drops points). Teams 3rd and below are now out of the race and can't catch top 2.

Eldest has been starting regularly for U21's and playing well. After warming the pine for so many weeks early in the season he looks to be ending the season on a high.

Haven't written for ages here...

2nd last match of the season for the U/16 girls. My aim last week was to claim 9 points between the two matches and have a chance of gaining one spot on the ladder. Unfortunately we drew (to the team that is 6 points above us), and while we're playing them again they have a superior goal difference.

The main problem is that I'm competitive but I only have a handful of girls in the team who are competitive. I could count them on one hand and have a couple of fingers spare. They simply do not get fired up, and play for the social aspect of seeing their friends a couple of extra times a week.

I wonder how many would play football for enjoying football - i.e. how many would play if they didn't have any friends in the team?

Anyway, today we're playing the same team as last week, so a win will narrow the gap to 3 points. A goal-fest would be wonderful for our goal difference and also affect the other team's. We'll see how we go.

C'mon Eagles!

Please?

On Friday night, I bumped into the girl who played goalkeeper in the team I coached last year (her older brother plays in the Knights reserves) and it's much to my relief that she's playing junior this season.

Stupid senior club was trying to poach her last year - she's a good keeper but she needs a LOT of work, and getting hammered in seniors (she's only 15) isn't going to do her any good at this stage. I told her so too - I'm just hoping she keeps that in her head for a few more years. No point stepping up unless there's no longer a challenge in playing juniors.

Worse this year for me, cos we have been sucked inexorably further into the club admin.
