A disgraceful decision by the FFA, so much for games being spread around the country when 2 out of 3 of the home legs of the Asian qualifiers being played in Sydney.

The game will be on SBS.
They have the rights, till the end of the year, then it goes to foxsports.

They want people to be attracted to the game, that was successful as we saw during our World Cup games yet they decide to go with pay-tv over free-to-air for Socceroo games.

Every home international will be played on Fox.

Sydney dominates 'Roos squad - SBS

Football Federation Australia has announced a squad of 22 players for a three-day training camp in Melbourne next week in preparation for Australia's first 2007 AFC Asian Cup qualifier on home soil.

The Socceroos' caretaker coach Graham Arnold is currently in England but has chosen only players from the A-League to take part in the camp at Melbourne Grammar from August 7 to 10.

"We have picked a blend of talented young players and some experienced players that will help the youth develop," Arnold said.

"This training camp is a huge opportunity for these players to state a case to be included in the match against Kuwait and perhaps then claim a spot ahead of next year's Asian Cup.

"The camp will be important preparation as many of these players would not have played together.

"We can't afford to take Kuwait lightly. I've studied videos of them them in action, spoken to other coaches about them and they are a well organised team."

At the completion of the camp Arnold will name the 18-man squad to take on Kuwait.

However, as most of the senior Socceroos are back in full swing with their European clubs, it is unlikely there will be many players returning to Australia for the match.

Every A-League club has at least one player among the 22, with reigning champion Sydney FC contributing eight players.

The training camp squad features Stan Lazaridis, Mark Milligan and Archie Thompson, all of whom were part of the Socceroos' World Cup team.

Kevin Muscat returns to to the national team squad for the first time since 2005, while Joel Griffiths the recent signing by Newcastle Jets will also be available after returning to Australia after a spell at Leeds United.

Australia's Asian Cup qualifier against Kuwait is at Sydney's Aussie Stadium on August 16.

Socceroos Training Squad:

Clint Bolton (Sydney FC), Mark Bridge (Newcastle Jets), Alex Brosque (Sydney FC), David Carney (Sydney FC), Steve Corica (Sydney FC), Alvin Ceccoli (Sydney FC), Spase Dilevski (Queensland Roar), Travis Dodd (Adelaide United), Joel Griffiths (Newcastle Jets), Iain Fyfe (Sydney FC), Stan Lazaridis (Perth Glory), Adrian Leijer (Melbourne Victory), Matthew McKay (Queensland Roar), Mark Milligan (Sydney FC), Kevin Muscat (Melbourne Victory), Stuart Musialik (Newcastle Jets), Jade North (Newcastle Jets), Sasho Petrovski (Sydney FC), Kristian Sarkies (Melbourne Victory), Archie Thompson (Melbourne Victory), Michael Valkanis (Adelaide United), Danny Vukovic (Central Coast Mariners)

Just Quietly how the fuck does Nick Carle not get in? As a nation we have very few creative players and even fewer natural number 10s. He better than pretty much the whole midfield, who the hell are Matt Mckay, Stewart Musialik and Travis Dodd?, Carle's got more talent in his little toe. He's ridiculously under appreciated and people think he's a showpony when he's actually the best midfielder in the league.

I absolutely agree. There are no players in this squad (apart from Corica) who can really play through the middle from midfield. Carle is the obvious choice and gets overlooked time and again! I think Arnold will end up playing Muscat as a DM too...thank the gods he's ruled himself out of the running for the senior job!

Even Jamie McMaster would be a reasonable inclusion. He created quite a bit against us on Saturday. He can at least play through the middle. Carney, Brosque, Dodd, Griffiths and Dilevski are all decent players and deserve a run in a game like this but they can't all play out wide!

Comparison to the team that took on Bahrain:
Ante Covic - NO
Michael Thwaite - NO
Michael Beauchamp - NO
Jon McKain - NO
Jade North - YES
Alvin Ceccoli - YES
Luke Wilkshire - NO
Josip Skoko - NO
Ahmad Elrich - NO
Archie Thompson - YES
Scott McDonald - NO
(David Carney 82) - YES
(Brett Holman 46) - NO

So only 4 players there that played Bahrain and only 3 players who play in the WC.

I think they can be, their past results have been very average, this team will beat them comfortably. Mark my words.

Shame that at least some overseas based players havent been called up, especially young guys who havent really got a look in as yet.

McMaster can fuck right off, he declared his alliegence to England when he was going to be the next big thing at Leeds, let him rot.

Bahrain didn't do too badly against us, Kuwiat can't be that much worse.
And to be honest, this is one of the worst Australian squads since the OFC Nations Cup when we got done by the sheepshaggers.
We are still probably going to win but feck me.

Interestingly, Alvin Ceccoli was also in the team that played that match!

But i think overall this is a much younger, more talented team.

As i have said before, Kuwait have struggled to a 0-0 draw against Bahrain and a 1-1 against Lebanon, my only worry is a lack of match fitness in our boys.

I'm not 100% sure if this is right but I heard on the radio that this is merely a training squad. Some euro players may still come and join the team for the actual match (probably not the best ones though). It is apparently not the squad for the match but may well make up most of the team.

From footballaustralia.com.au:

Qantas Socceroos Head Coach Graham Arnold, who is currently in England, has picked 22 players from the Hyundai A-League to take part in the camp with many of those expected to form the nucleus of the squad that will take on Kuwait.

"We have picked a blend of talented young players and some experienced players that will help the youth develop," said Arnold.

"This training camp is a huge opportunity for these players to state a case to be included in the match against Kuwait and perhaps then claim a spot ahead of next year's Asian Cup."
