Thought i would start a thread for discusssing the latest on our leigon of players plying their trade overseas. Generally a lot happening with them, so things which might not warranty their own thread can be discussed here.

Here's somthing to kick it off. Could be a goer i think, especially if Wigan end up selling Chinbonda. Would be good to see Kisnorbo in the top flight.

----------------------------

Wigan Athletic are weighing up a bid for Leicester City defender Patrick Kisnorbo.

The Leicester Mercury says Wigan have already expressed an interest and Foxes boss Rob Kelly knows the parlous financial state of City leaves his squad wide open to predators.

Kisnorbo, who is in the middle of new contract talks with City, said: "As for the speculation, football talk is football talk and I don't take any notice. Flattering? Of course, it always is but, until it is black and white, it is only talk."

According to the BBC gossip column over the last week as well as a few others.

- Neill linked to Barcelona, AC Milan and Tottenham.
- Emerton to Everton in a 1.5 million pound move.
- Bresciano to almost certainly move clubs with Palermo looking the most likely
- Kewell to be offloaded by Liverpool with the arrival of Mark Gonzalez. Be a bit hard though cause he is injured.
- Hayden Foxe is currently on trial at Leeds.
- Joel Griffiths is likely to be offloaded by Leeds as they try and raise transfer funds.
- Luke Wilkshire has left Bristol City with his possible destination being the A-League.

My bet is he'll goto Perth Glory, with the very strong FFA influences now there

Hayden Foxe is currently on trial at Leeds.

Wonder if that is true? Last a saw of him he was on TWG, saying he was back in Australia and completely crocked through injury. Would be good if he could get back into the game, he was a great prospect.

It's not really up to me, but most of the mods seem content on making it a national team section. It would be a good idea to include all Australians abroad, as well.

Is definately true as Leeds fans know for sure that he is currently on trial. No indications of how he is going yet though. Should be interesting to see if he gets a contract because he will definately play next season due to our low stocks of defenders.

Pre-season friendly match

Thursday, July 6, 2006

Wisla Stadium, Krakow

WISLA KRAKOWƒ2
(Kryszalowicz 5, Burns 29)
CELTIC...0

WISLA KRAKOW fans paid tribute to club icon and current Celtic striker Maciej Zurawksi as the HoopsÍ second match of their three-day pre-season tour of Poland ended in defeat.

Zurawski, who scored over 120 goals in five hugely-successful seasons with Wisla, was afforded a heroÍs welcome before the match and almost raised the roof when he appeared for a ten-minute cameo role near the end.

First-half goals from Pawek Kryszalowicz and Jacob Burns gave Dan PetrescuÍs side a victory in an entertaining contest, which was played in a competitive spirit throughout.

An estimated 13,500 fans packed into the compact Wisla Stadium for this match to celebrate the Polish clubÍs centenary season and helped create a carnival atmosphere on a warm summer evening in Krakow.

The home supporters were evidently out to enjoy the occasion, with around 100 ïWhite StarÍ die-hards filing into the stadium to start an impressive all-singing, all-dancing routine 90 minutes before kick-off. A number of Hoops fans had also made the journey east and several green and white banners added to the spectacle.

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan made five changes to TuesdayÍs starting XI, with Mark Wilson, Charlie Mulgrew, Simon Ferry, Paul Lawson and Craig Beattie replacing Paul Telfer, Aiden McGeady, Alan Thompson, Nicky Riley and Kenny Miller.

After the disappointment of losing to Legia Warsaw 48 hours ago, the Hoops were determined to produce a performance for the Polish public and were first to threaten. Jiri JarosikÍs neat footwork created space for Mulgrew on the left, but his cross narrowly eluded Beattie.

However it was Wisla - who eliminated Celtic from the 1976 UEFA Cup first round in the clubsÍ only previous meeting - who struck first in five minutes. A mazy run by the impressive Paulista ended with the perfect cut-back for Kryszalowicz and he placed a left-foot finish beyond David Marshall.

Celtic, with summer signing Jarosik partnering Beattie up front, probed for an equaliser and Paul LawsonÍs deep corner was just too high for the Czech Republic internationalist in the 20th minute.

Moments later, a good spell of possession ended with Lawson again crossing Beattie. But the strikerÍs header never troubled Pawelek in the Wisla goal.

However, Wisla always looked dangerous and another jinking Paulista run set up Penksa, who ballooned an effort into the building site behind MarshallÍs goal.

But Wisla werenÍt to be denied for long and added a second on the half-hour mark. Kryszalowicz driven cross broke to the edge of the box and Jacob BurnsÍ drive crept past Marshall and nestled in the corner.

Jarosik threatened from LawsonÍs corner as Celtic tried to get back into the match, and the flashed a drive over the bar from fully 25 yards.

Strachan introduced Telfer and McGeady for Mulgrew and Wallace after 35 minutes, but Wisla could added a third before half-time. Kryszalowicz outfoxed McManus and his curling left-foot shot skimmed the post.

The Celtic manager made a further three changes at the break, introducing Miller, Thompson and Stephen Pearson for Lawson, Ferry and Beattie.

McGeady, who had shown glimpses of his trademark trickery, burst to life on the right flank in 48 minutes, but his vicious delivery was punched away by Dolha as Jarosik waited to pounce.

CelticÍs next chance came from a free-kick on the edge of the box in 55 minutes. However, Stilian PetrovÍs effort was blocked by the wall. Two minutes later, WilsonÍs cross was met by Jarosik and his volley arrowed past the post.

Wisla then enjoyed a spell of pressure and substitute Stolarczyk headed inched past the post. At the other end, Caldwell rose highest to meet ThompsonÍs centre but his header was deflected into DolhaÍs hands.

Pre-season friendlies are all about improving playersÍ fitness levels and a spate of Wisla substitutions disrupted the flow of the game as Celtic chased a goal.

Jarosik, who impressed throughout the 90 minutes, had another effort on goal when he met McGeadyÍs pinpoint corner. But the former Chelsea manÍs header bounced into the side netting.

Adam Virgo was then introduced for Jarosik in 76 minutes, before Strachan gave the Wisla fans the moment they craved when he brought Zurawski into the fray. The Wisla crowd, as one, rose to applaud the man who fired them to three consecutive titles in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

However, the Polish striker, fresh from World Cup duty, couldnÍt spark a late comeback for Celtic as Wisla held on for the victory to claim the special centenary trophy.

Despite having failed to win a match in Poland, Celtic have won many friends during their three-day stay and StrachanÍs men will return to Scotland fitter and closer to attaining full fitness for the challenges that lie ahead.

FOXE LEADS UNITED PACK

Former Portsmouth defender Hayden Foxe headed a posse of trialists hoping to impress United manager Kevin Blackwell today.

The 29-year-old central defender was one of several hopefuls who trained with the United squad on a trial basis under the watchful eye of the manager and his coaching staff.

Foxe, who has had spells with Ajax and West Ham, was released by Portsmouth in 2005 and returned to his native Australia to undergo surgery on a foot injury.

But the Aussie international has undergone an extensive re-habilitation programme is now keen to re-establish himself in the English game.

The United boss said: "Hayden has got a good pedigree. He's had a year out with a fractured foot and at one stage it looked like he might have to pack up.

"But he went to the Australian Institute of Sport - a highly recommended place to go to - and he's done major re-hab.

"He's looking to start again over here and we were one of the only clubs outside the Premier League he felt he would like to come to, so I said 'come up' and we'll see what happens."

Joining Foxe and the rest of the United squad were two French youngsters, a Czech under-21 international, and a Polish international goalkeeper.

The gaffer said: "They're all lads at a decent level. We've a couple of French Premier League players. They've all got a good pedigree and are working hard.

"I want to give them a level playing field. I want to see if they can play a level of football at same as our players and see if they are better."

Here's some good news for one of our young prospects, if he is fit i think he should get a call up to the national team for at least one of the qualifers, along with Kilkenny.

-------------

Leicester City have been given a boost with the news that young midfielder James Wesolowski is fit for the new season.

The 18-year-old Australian broke the same leg on two separate occasions last season, and was restricted to just five appearances.

Foxes boss Rob Kelly is delighted with the speedy recovery he has made.

"It's really good to see James running around again," he told the club's official website.

"The medical team have done really well to get him back for the start of pre-season. I thought that may have been a big ask, considering the fact that he was coming back from a double leg break, but he is looking fine.

"He is in with the squad and doing everything they are doing."

WARD SIGNS

http://www.qpr.premiumtv.co.uk/javaImages/95/dc/0,,10373~2940053,00.jpg

Australian midfielder Nick Ward has today signed a two year deal with QPR.

Ward jetted in to Heathrow early this morning and was taken straight to the club's Harlington training ground for a medical.

With the all clear after being put through his paces by physio Prav Mathema, the 21 year old then put pen to paper at the main ground.

Speaking of his move, Ward said: "I want to cement my place in the team as a first team regular and I've already set myself a target of scoring over 10 goals this season.

"Of course I've also got a team target of getting QPR into the play offs come next May."

Ward made 21 appearances for Hyundai A-League side Perth Glory last season, bagging five goals - has represented his country at all levels and only just missed out on a spot in the Socceroo's World Cup squad.

http://www.qpr.premiumtv.co.uk/javaImages/4a/72/0,,10373~2912842,00.jpg

Ward also won this year's A-League 'Rising Star' award and was recently included in a 'Who's Who' of the best young players to watch on the FIFA website.

Speaking of the difference between English and Australian football, he said: "The game is a lot slower over in Australia, mainly because of the heat, whereas here it's a lot quicker with not as much time on the ball.

"I know that in the lower leagues especially they like to play the long ball game, but not in the Championship and especially not at QPR next year.

"I like to play good football, that's what I've always tried to do, I like to get the ball down and pass it, get forward and score goals."

Ward has been given today off to recover from the 24 hour journey, but will train with those who are not travelling to Aldershot on Saturday morning.

He will then travel to the Recreation Ground to see his new team mates in action.

Bees keen on Griffiths

Brentford look set to snap up trialist Adam Griffiths on a permanent basis.

The Bees crashed to a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Staines on Saturday but boss Leroy Rosenior was impressed by the performance of Griffiths.

"We will speak to Adam. We know his history, he is at a good age, and we will be talking to him over the next few days," said Rosenior.

Griffiths had a brief but unsuccessful spell at Watford last term before sealing a free transfer to Bournemouth in January.

The 26-year-old Australian is regarded as a tough, no-nonsense central defender.

Wilkshire interest hots up

By Peter ORourke - Created on 10 Jul 2006

Skysports.com understand a number of clubs are eyeing Australian midfielder Luke Wilkshire.

Wilkshire is looking for a new club after seeing out his contract at Bristol City.

The former Middlesbrough man is now weighing up his options after enjoying a successful World Cup campaign with Australia.

The versatile performer impressed in Germany and former Australia coach Guus Hiddink urged Wilkshire to move to a higher league than League One.

His performances at the finals caught the attention of a number of clubs across Europe and with Wilkshire being a free agent, he is an attractive proposition.

Premiership duo Everton and Reading are thought to be monitoring Wilshire's situation, as they look to bolster their squads.

Several Dutch sides and FC Zurich are also believed to be keeping a watching brief on Wilkshire, as he considers where to continue his career.

Forest waiting on Wigan keeper swoop?

Tuesday 11th July 2006

John Filan could be on his way to the City Ground according to reports
Wigan boss Paul Jewell is currently waiting to hear if he has been successful in a move for Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland and may let Filan go if he lands the former Coventry man.

36-year-old former Australian international Filan has been with Wigan since 2001 and played a number of games for them in the Premiership last season.

He had a short loan spell with Forest earlier in his career but did not make a senior appearance.

Foxe joins Whites camp in Norway

Leeds United trialist Hayden Foxe has joined the club's pre-season trip to Norway so Kevin Blackwell can take "an extended look" at him.

The Australian defender was released by Portsmouth in 2005 and previously played against Leeds wearing the colours of West Ham.

Along with Seb Carole, he is one of two new faces in the Leeds squad that will train twice a day in Scandinavia and play friendlies against Sarpsborg and Sandnes.

"We'll have a look at Seb out there and Hayden is coming as well," Blackwell told the club's official website.

"It's a chance for them to get to know the other lads and in Hayden's case we can have an extended look at him."

Addicks linked with Aussie

By Alex Livie - Created on 13 Jul 2006

Australian World Cup star Scott Chipperfield has emerged as a transfer target for Charlton.

The midfielder is on the books of Basel, but his future at the Swiss side is in doubt.

Chipperfield has been under contract at Basel since joining the club from Wollongong Wolves in 2001.

He has been a fixture in the Basel side and his consistent displays on the wing secured him a place in Guus Hiddink's World Cup finals squad.

The 29-year-old started all four of Australia's World Cup games and it would appear as if he caught the eye of new Addicks chief Iain Dowie during his summer in Germany.

Dowie is eager to stamp his own mark on the Charlton squad at The Valley and reports in the Swiss media are claiming he could make a move for the Australian winger.

Hughes battles for Neill

By Graeme Bailey - Created on 13 Jul 2006

Lucas Neill's future at Blackburn looks increasingly uncertain, although Mark Hughes remains confident he and fellow Australian Brett Emerton will remain at Ewood Park.

Neill, like Emerton, has just one year left on his current contract at Blackburn and, as yet, he insists he wants to keep his options open.

While Blackburn would be loathed to sell Neill, they also realise he would be free to leave the club next summer.

Neill's stock raised considerably during the World Cup in Germany, as he proved he can perform at the highest level in central defence - as well as his accustomed right back role.

Milan and Barcelona have been keeping tabs on the situation, whilst a host of Premiership clubs are already aware of the 28-year-old.

Now Australian sources claim that Neill has rebuffed Blackburn's offer of a new contract - which may well force their hand.

Hughes, though, remains hopeful both Neill and Emerton - who is being linked with West Ham, Fulham and Middlesbrough - will sign the contracts on offer to them.

"We don't want to lose them, that's why the offers are on the table, but they're keeping their options open at the moment," said Hughes.

"They were both going to see what happened after the World Cup and take it from there.

"We understood that was going to be the situation but we're more than hopeful that they'll sign.

"I thought both Lucas and Brett had a good World Cup. Both will be better for the experience.

"It's an outstanding time to play football for your country and they will have learned from it as players and individuals and hopefully we'll reap the benefits when they come back.

"We've made good offers to both of them and we're very hopeful they'll accept.

"At the end of the day it's time that they look at their situation and see what's best for them at this point of their careers and I think that would be to stay at Blackburn Rovers and enjoy the success that we're having at the moment and expect to have in the future."

Wesolowski hit by new injury blow

Leicester City midfielder James Wesolowski suffered a thigh injury in the Foxes 4-1 friendly victory at Boston on Wednesday evening.

The 18-year-old has just regained fitness after having two broken legs in the last two years.

Boss Rob Kelly told the club's website: "He has got a thigh strain. As soon as he flagged it up we took him off and hopefully it's not going to be serious.

"These sort of things happen when your coming back from a long-term injury."

Socceroos in UEFA win

Socceroos Scott Chipperfield and Mile Sterjovski were involved in FC BaselÕs 3-1 win over Tobol in the first qualifying round of the 2006/07 UEFA Cup this week.

Both players came on as late substitutes as the Swiss club cruised to a solid win to open their European campaign.

Sterjovski provided a crucial pass in the 69th minute that allowed Eduardo to score the teamÕs third goal and Chipperfield almost added a fourth moments later but his shot sailed just wide.

The two goal cushion should leave the team confident of progressing to the next round as they travel to Kazakhstan in two weekÕs time.

Elsewhere, the other Swiss club in action, BSC Young Boys also registered a 3-1 victory accounting for Armenian team FC Mika.

The biggest win of the round went to Romanian team Rapid Bucharesti who beat Sliema Wanderers of Malta 5-0. All five goals were scored in the first half and despite limiting the damage in the second period, Wanderers face an uphill battle to qualify.

Kennedy OI well run

14.07.2006

An two-hour OI behind itself has: Joshua Kennedy

Nuremberg - it was a large shock for all involved ones, when Joshua Kennedy hurt itself equal on its first training day in Nuremberg. The diagnosis after the immediate investigation by FCN Mannschaftsarzt Dr. Jochen Gruber: Achilles' tendon tear in the right foot.

Also the new coach of the Australian had to swallow the bitter pill first times. Hans Meyer: ÒKennedys injury meets us much, naturally already takes to us some possibilities in the tactical range.Ó On Friday Kennedy was operated in Munich elbow living two hours by Dr. Ludwig sea-farmer. The positive message: The OI well ran. Manager Martin Bader: ÒWe are pleased the fact that the interference ran complicationless and wishes Joshua good improvement!Ó

For the club now the question arises whether rework is necessary in the attack. In addition Meyer: For Òwe make thoughts natural over the personnel situation and think ourselves about an addition. But that must fit financially. Naturally we place ourselves also the question, who sits then starting from January, if Joshua is again there, on the bankÉÓ

Kisnorbo Pens New Deal

City defender Patrick Kisnorbo has signed a new deal with the Foxes that will keep him at the Walkers Stadium until at least the end of the 2008-09 campaign.

Kisnorbo, who joined Leicester from Hearts in June 2005, made 41 appearances during his first season with the club.

And manager Rob Kelly was impressed enough with what he saw to extend the players terms by a further year.

Kisnorbo said: "It's a big endorsement from the club to be handed a new deal less than 12 months after signing your old one and I'm very humbled by the gesture."

The Australian international began last season in midfield, but flourished when he was switched to centre half by then manager Craig Levein.

He will be part of the City squad that travels to Cheshire next week in preparation for pre-season friendly matches against Macclesfield Town and Stockport County.

Wesolowski Scan Results

City midfielder James Wesolowski faces a two-week stint on the sidelines after it was confirmed on Friday morning that he has a thigh strain.

The young Australian was forced out of City's pre-season clash against Boston United on Wednesday evening after just half an hour with the injury.

He was then sent for a scan on the problem area the following day to assess the damage.

And the good news is that Wesolowski should be back in training ahead of the Championship kick off on August 5.

Boss Kelly said: "It is a small strain and we are hopeful that he is not going to be out for a great length of time. We are confident that James will be fit start of season - which is great news for everyone."

Aussie goalie scores goal for Reading

Australian goalkeeper Adam Federici made a surprising case for first-team selection with English Premier League new boys Reading - as a goal-scorer.

Federici, a former Australian under-20, amazingly scored the winning goal for Reading in its 1-0 victory over Bromley after team injuries forced the shot-stopper to an outfield position during the friendly.

Federici, Reading's third-choice `keeper behind American Marcus Hahnemann and Ireland's Graham Stack, dropped his gloves and went forward in the pre-season match after midfielder Aaron Brown suffered a serious-looking ankle injury on the hour.

The Royals had already used their three regular outfield substitutes and so back-up keeper Ben Hamer was brought on with Federici going up front.

After showing some nice touches, Federici scored in the 70th minute from one of few chances in the match, creating enough space in a crowded box to get a shot away, which grazed the tip of the Bromley `keeper's fingers before which nestling into the corner of the net.

WORLD CUP LEFT DANNY OZ STRUCK!

16 July 2006

By Scott Mcdermott

AUSSIE hitman Danny Invinci-bile will boomerang back to Australia one day after sampling World Cup fever Down Under.

The Kilmarnock striker admits playing in the A League in his homeland would have been totally unthinkable five years ago.

But the soccer boom that has exploded in Oz this summer now makes it a viable option.

With big names such as Terry Butcher and Dwight Yorke there -as well as the likes of former Aussie international Stan Lazaridis - it's an attractive proposition for players in Europe.

Invincibile spent the summer in Brisbane and Sydney and was amazed at how the game's popularity has soared.

He said: "I was thinking about going to Germany for the World Cup but when I got to Australia the atmosphere was unbelievable so I stayed there.

"I enjoyed lying on the beach watching all the games on the big screen.

"I can't believe what's happened, it's incredible.

"People used to talk about the rugby and cricket but now every advert on TV is about football.

"It's fantastic for the new A League. The investors were relying on the team doing well at the World Cup and it's worked for them.

"Guys like Butcher and Yorke have lifted the profile. It used to be every player wanted out of the old NSL League and was eager to build a career over here.

"Now it's the older boys going back. Craig Moore has said he'd return and I'd like to do it at some stage.

"I was approached by a few Aussie clubs in the summer but I'm enjoying my football at Kilmarnock."

Invincibile has an Italian father so was torn during the Azzurri's tight 1-0 win over the Socceroos in the World Cup second phase.

He said: "I used to support Italy when I was younger because of my dad -I would watch the World Cup and guys like Toto Schillaci.

"So it was hard to watch that game and it was NEVER a penalty when Fabio Grosso went down in the box in the last minute.

"But as soon as we went out I became an Italy fan!

"I've played with just about the entire Australia World Cup side - people like Mark Bresciano, Vince Grella, Brett Emerton.

"We all went to the Youth World Cup in Nigeria.

"I keep in touch with a lot of them and haven't given up on making the national side.

"If I play well this season you just never know with the new man coming in."

No offers for Neill

By Lewis Rutledge - Created on 18 Jul 2006

Blackburn chairman John Williams has dismissed reports that Lucas Neill is set to quit Ewood Park, insisting that the club have yet to receive a single offer for the defender.

The Australian's current deal expires next summer and he has yet to put pen-to-paper on a contract extension.

Rumours were circling that the 28-year-old was keeping his options open in the hope of securing a deal with a higher profile club.

Milan and Barcelona, together with a host of Premiership clubs, were believed to be monitoring the situation closely.

Williams has rejected the claims though, explaining that the reason why nothing has yet been resolved is because Neill was given an extended break following his World Cup exertions.

"The reality is that Lucas has a deal waiting for him, which we are keen to discuss with him," Williams told The Lancashire Telegraph.

"And anyway, we haven't had a single offer for Lucas, which we're delighted about because we want to keep him."

Rovers will be especially keen to keep Neill with a Uefa Cup campaign ahead of them this season.

Duo chase Wilkshire
By Peter ORourke - Created on 21 Jul 2006

Sheffield United and Leeds are chasing Australian World Cup star Luke Wilkshire.

Wilkshire is hot property as he is available on a free transfer after leaving Bristol City.

The former Middlesbrough man impressed at the World Cup with Australia and his performances even had Guus Hiddink suggesting he should be playing at a higher level than League One.

A number of teams in Europe are thought to be tracking Wilkshire following his stellar showing in Germany.

The 24-year-old is currently training with FC Twente and the player's agent Frank Trimboli admitted a host of clubs were chasing the midfielder's signature.

"Sheffield United and Leeds are both keeping tabs on Luke," Trimboli told skysports.com.

"There are a number of clubs in Italy and Holland interested in Luke and Basel are also keen.

"His performances at the World Cup have alerted several sides and Luke is just considering all his options at the minute."

Here is a summary of Aussies abroad from TWG

Socceroos star Lucas Neill was sent off on an opening day of the English Premier League season in which Australians were prominent.

Neill picked up two yellow cards, the second in the 65th minute, as Blackburn suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at Portsmouth.

Brett Emerton, who has just signed a contract extension at Blackburn, started on the bench and came on when Rovers were already down two goals and a man, only to see Pompey score again and the visitors receive a second red card.

It could have been worse for Blackburn, as new Portsmouth signing Kanu - who already had two goals - missed his hat-trick opportunity from the penalty spot.

Mark Viduka thought he had scored a dramatic equaliser for Middlesbrough, but was denied by a contentious assistant referee's flag as Boro went down 3-2 at Premiership new boys Reading.

Boro led 2-0 early, but that advantage was largely due to Socceroos keeper Mark Schwarzer, who pulled off two fine early saves.

Schwarzer and his defenders were guilty of indecision as Reading pulled its first back on 43 minutes, and the crowd was still cheering as the home team banged home an equaliser.

Reading went ahead, but Viduka put the ball in the net with eight minutes to go and it appeared to be 3-3 but for the offside call.

Everton's Tim Cahill played a key role in his side's 2-1 win over another Premiership newcomer Watford.

Everton led from early in the game, and then on 82 minutes Cahill's cross was blocked by Watford defender Chris Powell.

Referee Peter Walton - who gave three penalties to home sides and none to visitors last season - again favoured the home team as he pointed to the spot despite the fact the ball clearly hit Powell in the face and not the hands.

Watford's late goal left them shaking their heads at that decision, and they really should have got a point for their efforts.

Craig Moore was in the starting line-up as Newcastle won 2-1 over Wigan, but was replaced at half-time as the Magpies struggled against a bright Wigan outfit.
