NZ Knights set to land Portuguese hotshot Rodrigues
tribalfooball.com - July 13, 2006

New Zealand Knights are close to sealing a deal for off contract Bournemouth striker Dani Rodrigues.

Former Portugal U21 international Rodrigues, 26, has been training with the squad this week and boss Paul Nevin has been impressed.

Nevin told the Knights website: "I know of Dani's ability from his time in England. He arrived as a quick and technically gifted goal scorer and was first spotted by Glen Hoddle and taken to Southampton. He suffered a couple of injury set backs early in his career though and is on the comeback trail looking fitter and as sharp as he has ever been."

While the contract is yet to be signed, Nevin has all but agreed terms and hopes to have the deal done in the next 48 hours.

Can't see it happening, but should it be true, good on them, to say they need it is an understatement.

Knights Manager Paul Nevin is excited about the prospect of landing former Portuguese U21 striker Dani Rodriguez for the Hyundai A-League season.

26 year old Rodriguez has been training with the squad this week and Nevin has been impressed.

"I know of Dani's ability from his time in England. He arrived as a quick and technically gifted goal scorer and was first spotted by Glen Hoddle and taken to Southampton. He suffered a couple of injury set backs early in his career though and is on the comeback trail looking fitter and as sharp as he has ever been."

While the contract is yet to be signed, Nevin has all but aggreed terms and hopes to have the deal done in the next 48 hours.

Tribalfootball deserves a bit more credit for being pretty much the only website that actually reports on things like this. Sure some of their bigger transfer stories are bullshit but alot of their AU/NZ news is stuff you just dont find out about elsewhere.

Should be a good signing for the Knights if they do get him.

Must admit, 80% of the Au/Nz stuff that gets posted here from Tribal normally gets reported later elsewhere

Just thought id bump this back up, a few people might want to start gathering the ingredients for some humble pie. The guy has signed for the Knights, scored on debut and was apparently a livewire the whole match.

Should I move this to the "World Football Discussion" forum, seeing that it concerns New Zealand? :o

In all seriousness, the early results from NZ indicates that they're looking OK this season. Now, if only we could get kiwi fans to turn up . . .
