Bradford City winger Bobby Petta is expected to clinch a move to Adelaide United after impressing during training with the A-League side.
The former Celtic man still has a year remaining on his contract with The Bantams but has been told he is surplus to requirements and is being allowed to search for a new club.
Petta originally travelled to Australia last month to discuss a switch to Queensland Roar but was told he was not fit enough to win a move to the sunshine state.
Adelaide decided to bring the 31-year-old in for a trial and he has impressed sufficiently during a week training with the club to win a deal.
Bradford boss Colin Todd is hopeful all parties will be able to complete the transfer but does not expect the deal to be concluded very quickly.
"He has got to get a visa which can take up to a couple of weeks but we expect it to happen," Todd told the club's official website.
"We will be disappointed now if it doesn't.
"Bobby's agent has spoken to [chief executive] Julian Rhodes and we hope it will make rapid progress.
"It will be good news for all concerned."

Petta is long past it, if they think he is going to be the answer to Qu, they have another thing coming. He's old and unfit. Anyway good luck to him, hope he contributes somewhat to the A-league.

Adelaide Utd deals for young strike-pair
tribalfooball.com - July 20, 2006
Adelaide United have signed two new strikers on short-term contracts.
Strikers Nathan Burn and Bruce Djite are both members of the Australia U20 squad and will be with United for the next four weeks.
They will help provide cover for Fernando Rech (groin) and Dez Giraldi (foot), who are both injured.
This has a ting of desperation about it.

Big wraps on Djite and I don't think you can judge the Petta signing until you see him play.

Bruce Djite is a great signing. He has performed really well for all Oz Youth teams and i was wondering when he was going to get snapped up. I really hope we can get Giannou for next season.

Yep hope he signs on for the season.
Great for Australian Football anyway, a young striker with potential.
Him and Williams could be our strike partnership in the future.
Interesting that he was born in the USA.

Adelaide United Football Club is pleased to announce the re-signing of former Chinese International Shengqing Qu for the 2006/2007 Hyundai A-League Season.
Qu had originally decided to remain in China as his family was homesick, however since returning to his homeland they began to miss Adelaide and the Australian lifestyle. When contacted by the club, Qu was keen to return to the Reds where he was one of the A-League’s leading goal scorers.
Qu was without doubt the find of last years A-League, scoring 7 world class goals to help United clinch the inaugural Hyundai A-League Premiership.
AUFC CEO Michael Petrillo finalised the deal with Qu today, after several days of negotiation lead to the prized signature of the classy import. Several clubs have been chasing his services; however Adelaide was always his preferred option.
“Qu made it clear that Adelaide was the only club he would play for in Australia. He thoroughly enjoyed his time here last year and we are delighted to have secured his services for another year” said Petrillo.
“The exciting part for us is that he tells me he is in much better shape than when he arrived last year and is very keen to join the players in our quest to challenge for the Championship, along with the other new players in Giraldi, Owens and Spagnuolo which augurs well for the new season, and I’m sure welcome news for our supporters who deserve the best.”
Qu will arrive in Adelaide in 2 to 3 weeks time, to join John Kosmina’s squad, prior to the start of the 2006/2007 Hyundai A-League season.

if thats true then i'd say adelaide have a much improved chance of matching last seasons efforts. Qu really looked to be one of the class players of the league, and if he doesn't have a huge injury again would be a really good signing for them.

Damn! ;) It is good to see Qu back in the A-League though.... I thought he was great last year.
I've always thought that Melbourne should look at recruiting a quality Chinese player.... May add a few hundred to the gate each match.
