View Full Version : The Annual A-Leagues Worst Supporters Shirt

Ok most people would know that last year "The Scum" supporters had a horrible looking t-shirt. While they may have improved there design a slight bit, I think the award deserves to stay in the state with the "Marinators effort.

And the "Teh Cove" discover the trace button in Illustrator with this runner-up effort.

Well the cove one is based on Trainspotting, classic 90's art house flick. Hence the grammar, choose... , choose..., anyway.

I know we are meant to bag scum and all, but it looks all right. Whereas CCM, my god, some 8 year old using Paint came up with that.

Hey this website sums it up

"Melbourne Victory supporters are known to fans of other A-League teams as having the largest 'passionate' fan base in the league, with an immense travelling crew. Sydney FC and Queensland Roar have the next biggest 'mobile' fan bases, but are still considerably smaller. "

someone bagging out the use of grammar who can't spell it???

The Marinators shirt says Marinators on it three times actually. There were issues with last years shirt not handling washing machines and dryers so it had to change.

The sponsors bring in a bit of extra money which helps the Marinators buy things like flags and banners, which is good for the groups, my issue with the sponsorship is that both sponsors conflict with the club's sponsors.

OK, apparently we can't have a discussion without it degenerating into a shit fight. I'm not going to join in hanging shit on anyone, the design isn't great but hey it helps get the yellow in the ground, I'd rather them wear an ordinary looking football themed shirt then a professionally designed Rugby League shirt. Think all the shirts shown in here are pretty ugly, but most the comments, ie: the cove, are more aimed at a hatred of the cove than the shirt. And as ugly as it may be, the Marinator shirt would probly work best if you had a fair few people wearing them together, would stand out well with the yellow.

Yep, that's the idea, and the benefit of the team wearing yellow, unlike Scumcastle whose fans don't stand out at all (when they show up), like I say I'd rather fans wear something that looks bad but is about real football than something that looks good but is rugby league.

oh and Go Leeds!

stand out well with the yellow.

The wide-angle shots of the CCM support looked pretty good during the final. A good belt of yellow right there.

But the close up shots, a lot of people were too cheap to buy proper shirts so u had people just wearing random yellow t-shirts... that didn't look as great.

For a first season, its still a good effort. If a whole stadium wears the one colour, then it will have a huge affect for both the players and supporters. look at sth korea, they looked amazing because the whole crowd had red, and jumped and had fun together. I don't think the melbourne jumpers could have the same affect being too dark. but you could even see how good it looked when everyone held up their scarfs together. I'm sure it gives a lot of the players a smile when they see this type of support in Aus, and then the crowd away from the cheer squad sorta sections will have a ball watching and getting involved in the future also.

The marinators shirt is atrocious...The Cove shirt, as wel always said, wouldnt have a sponsor in year two, we just didnt have capital to fund it without in year one...And lets be honest guys, you did well in terms of passion, but the supporters area that everyone was talking about last year in terms of colour and sound was The Cove...admit it, we achieved a lot more than you guys last year. end of.

Um, sound maybe. Quite hard to compare when one has the right acoustics for atmosphere - and on quite clearly doesn't. I think we'll find out more when we get a roof (:D).
Colour? I thought it was pretty even.

Although it's a bit difficult to comment on supporter of other teams when you may have only seen them once.

You've got an enclosed stadium with great acoustics, you were in the finals and filled your ranks with bandwagonners and blow-ins.

We have a small, opened up sardine tin of a stadium, with poor acoustics to say the least, and we finished 7th. Yet we managed to create a passionate atmosphere with all that against us.

How does having sponsorship spread across your shirts fall under the category 'real football'?!

Clearly you missed what I meant in the words 'real football' I meant football shirt not Rugby League shirt.

It's about getting the yellow into the ground, nobody was wearing yellow at the start, and we need the advertising, we wouldn't get enough cash without the sponsorship and they won't just give us money. I know the players loved walking out at Scumcastle and seeing this massive section of yellow, and they didn't care who had a jersey and who had a marinators shirt, or a cheap yellow shirt, they knew who they were there to support and it was a boost, it's not for us it's for the team, yea it's fun, but the support is what we're there for. I don't have a socceroos jersey (not for that price, I'm a uni student!) but I'lll still wear a gold shirt when I see them play,

The scarf thing at OP looked great, I don't think we'd ever be able to do that but it was fantastic. I went down there last season and it's a shame that OP is such a poor stadium for atmosphere because I know you guys can generate it damn well.

No convincing needed my friend, we can argue all we want about acoustics, stadium regulations, marios, coin throwing, splinter groups and brotherhoods but when it comes to volume and visual affect the Cove set the bench mark last year...and we have some plans being worked on currently that if achieved will blow you out of the water. lol
