Perth Glory will take on Melbourne Victory in its first home match of the year, as part of the 2006 Pre-Season A-League Cup, at Dorrien Gardens, West Perth tomorrow (Kick-Off 3pm Saturday, July 22, 2006).
In the opening round of the Pre-Season in Gosford last weekend, despite a narrow defeat (2-1) to last year’s Pre-Season champions Central Coast Mariners, the Glory performed well, with solid showings from key players David Micevski, Leo Bertos, Mark Robertson, David Tarka and Jamie Harnwell.
The Glory squad will now look to notch up its first win of the Pre-Season in what is expected to be an intensely competitive clash.
“We’re looking forward to a good challenge tomorrow,” said Acting Head-Coach Alan Vest.
“Our plan will be to build on the positives of last week and get off to a better start much earlier in the match. Obviously Melbourne as a team will be at full strength, so we’ll need to show a lot more consistency and be competitive right throughout the game to match up.
“It’s also a good opportunity for the lads to strengthen their match fitness and to get some serious practice in, in preparation for the Hyundai A-League season," concluded Vest.
Having commenced training with his new club this week, Qantas Socceroo Stan Lazaridis will be rested for tomorrow’s match, in readiness for his debut with the Glory in the coming rounds. Unavailable for selection due to injury are Simon Colosimo (knee ligament), Jeremy Christie (knee cartilage) and Jamie Coyne (abdomen).
