I never really followed the old NSL, so I was wondering, who were some of the foreign stars of the old NSL and who was the biggest foreign name to play in the NSL?

Malcolm McDonald in the early days when he came out here to play for South. I was at the games he played but being a young kid I can't remember much of him, but my old man keeps saying how back then he was the equivalent of say a Bergkamp coming out here now to play for Victory. Middle Park in those days was absolute jampacked when McDonald guest starred.

Zeljko Adzic. While not coming over here with the reputation of say a Beardsley or Best he made a huge impact. Ask any old Melbourne Croatia fan.

Milan Ivanovic
He was class. Why didnt Venables pick him for the home game against Iran will be a mystery to us all especially since both the goals conceded were in the centre of defence. :(

Charlie George played a few games for St George, one of them against South when Malcolm McDonald was here. We lost 2-3 at middle park with a packed stadium, even had all the kids sitting over th fence on the grass.
Great memories Box.

"Donkey" Dave was actually a Rangers stalwart and got quite a few caps for Scotland too. Was on pretty big money for the old NSL(about $275,000 reportedly) but was well and truly in the twilight of his career. He was also pretty instrumental in advising his old mate Terry Butcher on the Sydney FC gig.

I had the misfortune to watch him play 6 games before he was unceremoniously dumped and told to fuck off back to which ever crack house he came from

Slim was a very good player in his day. He was a very nice bloke as well.
He has a deal with Lou Sticca to shop players and coaches around through tribal football management which is how Butcher ended up in Sydney.
Sticca also set up tribalfootball.com and (surprise, surprise) Butcher ends up writing columns for them.

Can anyone remember Mikey Conroy...the Carlton forward, who, if memory serves correct managed to score...hmmm lets see No goals in the old league? Well we created a whole group around him, the Mikey Conroy appreciation society, who kindly and graced us with his presence and attended one of our 5-a-side games (Albert Park) as a sign of appreciation of our game support (from our favourite beleagured star)
So what started as a pisstake cemented a friendship of sorts...anyway taking you back to our 5-a-side we ended up in a punch up with our opposition after we lost the match...phucken classic! The punch up nearly continued at the Cricketers afterwards amongst our own team becasue we disgraced ourselves in front of our hero.
So the question is, does anyone know the whereabouts of Michael Conroy - Carltons number 12?
Thats why Danny Allsop is my new hero!!!! He reminds me of myself, 80,000 shots on goal for 1 return.
