Under other circumstances, the Newcastle Jets would have finished at the bottom of the group with a negative two goal difference, but the bonus point they earned from scoring two goals against the Melbourne Victory on Saturday night has meant that they now finish in second place and have secured a position in the 2006 Pre-Season Cup semi-finals.
And you're calling others slow ones?????? LOL!

i most definately am slow because to me they are on even points (3).
So either they should piss off down to the bottom or the 1 bonus point they recieved is actually worth more than just a point if it can also make up for a negative goal difference, which is not represented in this table.
I guess this just proves that this system is flawed and should be thrown out.

Yeah, thats got to be a typo.
Newcastle should be 4th, equal goals, better goal difference.
Either the sheepshaggers or the rednecks 2nd; who ever scored more goals or who had the better result against each other (however the FFA are doing it.)
Unless they are going by most goals scored if points are even?
Quite odd.

They are even running a poll regarding the 4 semi finalists:

This too includes NJFC. Pretty piss poor for a professional league to make these mistakes, surely someones checking this stuff.

New Zealand Knights have been dumped from the preseason Cup semifinals, despite having a superior record to Newcastle Jets.
The decision to introduce a 'bonus' system for attacking play for the weekend's round has seen the Jets pip the Knights for the Cup semi, despite suffering one more defeat and having inferior goal difference to the Kiwis.

Nope, in the event that two teams are level on points, then whoever has the most bonus points finishes higher, which essentially means the bonus points are counted twice. The Sheep Shaggers and Qld Meow were separated by disciplinary record.
Stupid system - must have been Matt Carroll's idea.

so bonus points are more important than winning?!?!?!?
WTF is happening to our game?

This is exactly why such 'innovations' such as bonus points would piss so many people off if they were introduced into the regular season.
