This also reflects on general coaching in this state. The following article in The World Game triggered this question:
"Glory sign grand final hero - SBS
NSW Premier League’s growing reputation for producing tomorrow’s stars has taken another boost with confirmation Sydney United grand final hero Luka Glavas has been snapped up by Perth Glory this week.
Glavas has impressed coach Ron Smith during trials and will join the Glory for their 2006-07 A-League campaign.
“It’s all a bit of a blur, so much has happened in the last several weeks. I need to thank my parents and everybody at Sydney United who helped me get this far,” said Glavas, who scored all four goals in United’s defeat of Blacktown in the NSW grand final.
After scoring seven goals for the champions during the three-game semi-final series, Glavas now knows that things will be a little tighter in the top league, but feels full-time football under a coach with great results on the board, will only make him a better player.
Glavas hopes to be a part of the Perth Glory side that plays New Zealand Knights this weekend.
Glavas' signing follows the recent A-League signings of Blacktown's Tolgay Ozbey and Marconi stars Tony Faria and Adam D’Apuzzo.

If any of you read A&B Soccer Weekly you'll see many ads pushing coaching academies throughout and around Sydney.
SBS has had a weekly coaching programm "Football Stars of Tomorrow", this show is based in NSW and showcases juniors in NSW.
Is Victoria falling behind, how many young players (U17s, U20s, U23s and the girls/womens) are we producing for the national teams?
As far as women is concerned, we are lucky to get 1 player in the U20s and 1 in the senior side. Our present U20s touring Sth America does not have a Victorian player (unless some are listed under the AIS).
So, is the NSW Premier League stronger than our VPL?

I can't comment on the relative quality of the comps
but I know football in Australia has tended to be Sydney-centric for a long long time, and I can't imagine the Lowy regime not reinforcing that
the game was stronger in NSW for decades, partly I think because of the relative weakness of rugby v aussie rules, and partly because of the stronger regional centres in NSW - Newcastle has been a particular stronghold of the game
the SBS program does also feature Victorian kids too though, cos a kid from our club was on recently

Id say VPL > NSWPL.
VPL has had ALOT more players move onto A-league. And id say it has more ex-international players aswel.
Dont be fooled by the masssive amount of media coverage. Ive heard from a very good source that they pay truckloads to get their state covered on sbs etc.

All I'll say is the NSW league is much better than the VPL.
What we really need is a competition, or a cup even, that incorporates teams from both leagues.

Not rly, i think they're having a NSWPL winners vs VPL winners game.
Kinda like what they did when a VPL winner vs Sth Melbourne. That club was Preston. They got thrased and rioted.

The rumours has been flying around for a while now. I remember it being mentioned on the VPL weekly show by Pignata, but I'm not sure how serious they have been in working towards it. MILO was also meant to take over Vodafone as the major sponsor.

Ok, yeah Coveny is an international for New Zealand. Wow. I'd get a run for the All Whites. Big fucken deal. And I think you had a bloke who once played for T&T right. Yeah, there a great team aren't they! (waits for box to tell me that T&T where in world cup). I answer to that, Vanuatu would have a chance to make it through North America. International don't mean shyte box!

We have arguably the best defender when fit in the vpl Con Blatsis on our books, played epl for derby county and at other european clubs, Tanel baser another south player also played in the turkish top flight.

Vpl lol, getting a little on the older side as well, Baser has packed on a bit of kilos, now very slow, the touch as always remains so he still guns it at this level, Blatsis when FIT could slot into any A league back central defence but again injuries have destroyed him for 2 years, if Coveny can get a gig ( dunno why at 33-34) then blats could play top flight. Obviously both not as good as what they were before they left the country.

lol nah blats gun, was chased by A league clubs then fell away with injuries, been out for most of this year and only just returned 2 weeks ago, the man can go in the top flight not even 30 years old yet, if he gets a run on and plays games i wouldnt be surprised if we lose him, but you cant be noticed when your sitting in the stands, bad for him, good for us short term at least.

If Blatsis didn't get injured every 2 minutes he'd be with an A-League team.
