To be honest it is a flawed proposal.
Why would any division one clubs be considered over teams already in the respective state premier leagues?

^^^^^

agreed, surely 5th , 6th ,7th , and 8th VPL teams are better than top 4 state league 1 sides.

Also, its just to expensive to run this type of competition, considering the next tier down from A-league is an ametuer competition as opposed to the Championship which is a professional competition.

Thus it makes it very hard for teams like Altona to travel to QLD to play Brisbane strikers etc. The teams in the variouse state premier league comps are just not financially robust to compete in such a competition.

Kudos for the effort though.

A cup would be good, it involves the clubs and suburban supporters which is great.

would be great to have a cup that goes right down to the very lowest rungs of each state. i'm talking 3rd and 4th divisions.

remember - english FA cup has at least 6 rounds that i know of before premier league teams come into the equation. they have i think 3 rounds before teams in the "league" (ie divisions above conference national) come into the equation.

Yeah the FFA should definately work towards something like this. The only problem is the state leagues dont coincide with the A-League season.

It is imperative that at some stage during the A-League (or football in general) development that the state leagues and A-League interact with each other somehow.

prehaps the cup could be in pre-season or end of season for state leagues

The moment we go back to playing against VPL sides or whatever in an official tournament is taking a backward step IMO. And besides, the gap in talent is too big. The best VPL side would probably lose 5-0 to the Victory

5-0 to the Victory

Just like all our 'thrashings' of them during the preseason? I think some people under estimate the strength of a few sides.

I'm not sure this will happen.

The FFA has worked extremely hard to make the A-League a completely seperate entity from all other forms of football in this country. To let the VPL teams play A-League teams would jeopardise it.

ive been aruging and debating this for a year with a group of mates and ive always thought its a fuckin awesoem idea but itd have to be done like this (due to the cost and how big australia is in size). Itd ahve to eb structured very well.

1. Each state, whether itd be a certain level of quality (for example no provisional sides ebcause theyre a waste of time) , play off untill the top how ever many teams make it through to the australia-wide trip. These games would have to be played on a Wednesday night or somthing.
2. Then the following rounds include the a-league teams and its structured so the aleague teams wont play each other early (oviously)
3. Then its simplydoneuntill the winner is crowned

Itd be great for the interest by fans and players in local and smaller clubs to watch a better team contest against their hometown club. Who knows a VPL club might go all the way. An FFA Cup (well organised) can only do good for our expanding game in Australia
