Con Boutsianis played has last game of professional football last Friday night when the Oakleigh Cannons went down 1-0 to Heidelberg in the VPL semi final at Bob Jane Stadium. Con had a great game and could have even scored the goal that turned the game, but the Heidelberg goal keeper produced some great saves. Despite Cons efforts, the 10 man Oakleigh Cannons side went down 1-0 (in extra time) to bring the curtain down on Cons career as a professional player.

Despite the obvious troubles during his career, I'm sure we can all agree that he was a great player for both the NSL and the Socceroos and deserves our congratulations on a fantastic football career.

SBS grabbed him at the end of the game to interview him for a segment of this Sundays 'the world game', so any fans of Cons should tune in to say thankyou and farewell to one of Australias most talented creative midfeilders.

Talented players, gave a lot to the game in terms of skill.

He had his bad moments, like Zilcho mentioned, but that's not my gripe with him. The fact that he's a complete arsehole is why I can't stand him, the main incident in my mind was refusing to play for the Bergers a few years ago, until they collected enough money to pay him from the fans around the ground. :mad:

As a kid he was far and away my fav player, was quick, could whip in a cross like no other man in this country, brilliant from dead ball situations (best in country), has made his fair share of mistakes in life, really is a harmless guy anyone that speaks to him would realise that, comes across as a smart man.

My main issue with him was he won us a grand final, then only days later his mistake was revealed, the club pulled out all the stops to save him from jail time, he left, then when his career was at the crossroads south welcomed him back, he would leave again and then once more when things starting going sour for him South would give him yet another chance, mind you everytime he returned to South he played brilliant football, 2 yrs ago was the last straw for most south fans, club in crisis a lot of the other players moving on to A league clubs, Coveny being the only one to stay on at south, considering he was well into his 30s we thought surely boutsi will finish things off at South........then amazingly went and had a whinge to the newspapers about not being paid by the financial cripped south, said some incredible things about the club...the same club that went to the courts to defend him, then on top of it slaps us in the face by joining arch enemy heidelberg United, then when things went wrong there he actually had the audacity to try and return back to South last year, this time the club told him to get lost.

Great player, club slvt, should have showed more loyalty to South, its depressing watching old clips of him knowing that he could have been a club legend, much more wiser in recent times, however as far as his career in football goes he had ruined himself a long time ago, even he i'd imagine would be frustrated with how his career went and knowing it could have been so much better.

Anyway thanks for the memories boutsi, all the best in retirement.

Con Boutsianis was on of the best players ive ever seen live, he was a joy to watch esp in the 2001/2002 season. ill never forget the night we beat Marconi 3-1 or 3-0 at BJS, he scored 2 absolute pearlers...
