Yorke sad to leave Sydney - AAP
Dwight Yorke has laid the blame for his departure from the A-League on Sydney FC.
The former Manchester United star has joined Sunderland for STG200,000 ($A500,000) after agreeing to a two-year deal with the north-eastern English Championship club.
Yorke said he was sad to leave Australia but with no indications from Sydney FC of re-signing him beyond this season it was in his best interests to head to Sunderland.
"If they did not really want me to go they would not have let me go, because they have the pulling power so to speak," Yorke said.
Sunderland is currently playing in the Championship and is managed by Yorke's former Manchester United teammate Roy Keane.
"At the end of the day I have six months remaining on my contract and then I am out of contract," he said.
"There was no talk about me extending the contract and whether that was the case, it was not documented to me or my manager."
"That being the case and I have a two-year deal in England, I had to think about it."
Yorke credited Sydney FC with helping resurrect his career which had been floundering previously in England.

YORKE: NO OLD-PALS' ACT
By Damian Spellman, PA Sport
Dwight Yorke will expect no favours from former team-mate Roy Keane on his return to English football.
...(snip)...
Despite reports to the contrary from Australia, where Yorke left Sydney FC to answer Keane's call, he had little hesitation in taking up the Irishman's offer.
He said: "When I got permission to speak to Roy, once I spoke to him on the phone, that was it.
"He knew exactly what I thought. There is no doubt I wanted to be at this club.
"This club is massive in terms of a football perspective. There is no comparison between Sunderland and Sydney FC.
"Sunderland, as far as I am concerned, is a massive club, Roy Keane as the manager played a major role in bringing me back here and, from a footballing perspective, this is the best thing that could happen to me.
...(snip)
Funny how all of Dwight's anguish over leaving the Scum seems have to evaporated and now he wanted to go to Sunderland all along.
My favourite bit is this one:
There is no comparison between Sunderland and Sydney FC.
Let's just read that again
There is no comparison between Sunderland and Sydney FC.
I love it.
