View Full Version : More Sydney bias from FFA??

Anyone notice a little difference in the way 2 goals this season have been officially awarded?

Fernando's 2nd goal on Saturday night took a mean deflection off Jamie Coyne, and was officially marked as an own goal to Coyne.

Yet in Round 2 when Carney's shot took a deflection off Vargas the goal was awarded to Carney.

Why was one awarded as an OG and one awarded to Carney when both took deflections and went in?

I know we don't want Vargas with an OG next to his name, but if the FFA is going to be consistent then Carney should not be awarded that goal.

Good point.

It's because Carney's was on target to start with (even though it probably would have been stopped had it not taken the deflection), whereas Rech's was not on target and only hit the target because of the deflection.

It's the same criteria as used in other places around the world, so let's not get too precious.

I don't know about the carney goal (can't remember the exact detail) but Rech's shot was heading for the corner flag....definite OG

Rechs was heading into row X. Carneys looked like it was going high, but you cant really tell.. It doesn't matter whos name goes on the scoresheet anyway.

If that's the case then fair enough, but I was always of the opinion that any shot that takes a deflection was on OG.

You learn something new every day!

I thought Carney's was going wide.

Yeah but you cant be so sure.. It might have missed by a few inches but it is impossible for the scorers to tell. You could tell that Fernandos was missing by miles so you can say it's an own goal.

So would you take yesterday's goal off Archie?
Coz most of us know it was already going in after Danny hit it.

Sometimes they are hard to call.

I remember getting all steamed up about Crespo claiming a goal in Germany that was clearly an oggie. It stayed in his stats too.
What can you do?

in the premiership there is a suspect goal review....they check the tape whether to award an own goal or not
