THE Socceroos' friendly with Ghana in London tomorrow week is looming as a shop window for Jason Culina to secure a move to England.
Culina is being courted by a mid-table Premier League club and a club from Spain's La Liga over a possible move from Dutch giant PSV Eindhoven.
PSV offers Culina exposure in the Champions League and a tilt at a second Dutch title, but the lure of playing in his favourite position in central midfield may sway the Socceroo.
Coach Ronald Koeman has a team brimming with full internationals at PSV and has been using Culina more in a wide role.
Culina has said he is happy in Holland, but it's understood his agent has been fielding interest from England and Spain.
The fixture at Loftus Rd is ideal for scouts from both clubs to have a closer look at Culina.
In Italy, Marco Bresciano's Palermo rejoined Inter Milan at the top of Serie A after a 2-0 win against Sampdoria yesterday.
Bresciano, rested for Palermo's UEFA Cup game against Newcastle midweek, played the full game as his side comfortably accounted for Sampdoria with a goal in each half.
Palermo, which has 24 points from 10 matches, continues to be the big surprise packet in Italy.
In Germany, Michael Beauchamp made his full senior debut for Nurnberg after several weeks on the substitutes' bench.
The Socceroo defender played the full 90 minutes, but finished on the losing side as Hertha Berlin inflicted a 2-1 defeat.
In England, Lucas Neill's Blackburn extended its horror run in the Premier League to five matches without a win, going down 2-0 to Aston Villa.
Former Young Socceroo keeper Adam Federici was on the bench for Reading for the second week in a row as back-up to Marcus Hahnemann. Reading went down 2-0 at Liverpool.
AUSTRALIA'S top referee Mark Shield flew to Syria yesterday to take charge of tomorrow's deciding second leg of the Asian Champions League final between Al Karama of Syria and South Korea's Jeonbuk Motors.
The appointment caps off a big year for the 33-year-old, who was the A-League's referee of the year and officiated at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
