England, Spain court Culina

THE Socceroos' friendly with Ghana in London tomorrow week is looming as a shop window for Jason Culina to secure a move to England.
Culina is being courted by a mid-table Premier League club and a club from Spain's La Liga over a possible move from Dutch giant PSV Eindhoven.

PSV offers Culina exposure in the Champions League and a tilt at a second Dutch title, but the lure of playing in his favourite position in central midfield may sway the Socceroo.

Coach Ronald Koeman has a team brimming with full internationals at PSV and has been using Culina more in a wide role.

Culina has said he is happy in Holland, but it's understood his agent has been fielding interest from England and Spain.

The fixture at Loftus Rd is ideal for scouts from both clubs to have a closer look at Culina.

In Italy, Marco Bresciano's Palermo rejoined Inter Milan at the top of Serie A after a 2-0 win against Sampdoria yesterday.

Bresciano, rested for Palermo's UEFA Cup game against Newcastle midweek, played the full game as his side comfortably accounted for Sampdoria with a goal in each half.

Palermo, which has 24 points from 10 matches, continues to be the big surprise packet in Italy.

In Germany, Michael Beauchamp made his full senior debut for Nurnberg after several weeks on the substitutes' bench.

The Socceroo defender played the full 90 minutes, but finished on the losing side as Hertha Berlin inflicted a 2-1 defeat.

In England, Lucas Neill's Blackburn extended its horror run in the Premier League to five matches without a win, going down 2-0 to Aston Villa.

Former Young Socceroo keeper Adam Federici was on the bench for Reading for the second week in a row as back-up to Marcus Hahnemann. Reading went down 2-0 at Liverpool.

AUSTRALIA'S top referee Mark Shield flew to Syria yesterday to take charge of tomorrow's deciding second leg of the Asian Champions League final between Al Karama of Syria and South Korea's Jeonbuk Motors.

The appointment caps off a big year for the 33-year-old, who was the A-League's referee of the year and officiated at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

More Desira garbage. I remember last year he let fly with some garbage that in exchange for Archie at PSV, we'd get a Bundesliga midfielder. If it's a Bundesliga midfielder, how the hell do PSV have anything at all to do with it.

He says he wants to leave because he wants try out England or Spain but the real explanation is that he doesn't like Koeman, Koeman was the manager that hated Culina at Ajax lol and even though he has said that Culina is a completely different player now, he is slowly starting to give him less and less time on the field.

I read a while ago that Culina wanted to leave to a more high profile league like England because he wasn't getting recognised as much as other soccerroos in Australia even though he plays in a champions league team.

Sounded pretty stupid, this article sound more legit.

I think you're right there. he came off the bench in the last champions league match.

Koeman is a dick. As to where Culina should go it depends on the club.

I reckon he's off to the Riazor

You are right on the money there. Koeman and Cullina do not get on.

Sign the petition to ban Koeman from entering Australia.

Sign him up to replace Nevin at the knights, that'll teach him.

Yeah and the last few league games aswell.. But the weird thing is that when he does come on it's usually at half time or even just before, and usually replaces a defender. In that last Champions League match he came on at half time as well i think, was one of the better players when coming on and he shouldn't find it that hard to get a new club. Please not in england, hopefully Spain or Italy.

Spain would be great. If he can go to an Athletico Madrid, Villareal or Deportivo La Coruna, it would be awesome.

He always makes an impact when he comes on for PSV.

Yeh its very surprising to see him continously come on around the half time mark. You would think that he would warrant starting, i believe a few years ago (at twente) he was one of the most prolific attacking mids scoring around 10-12 goals in the season
