Rank--Team-------------------Total------Average
1---- Melbourne Victory ---- 99,049 ---- 24,762
2---- Queensland Roar ---- 52,266 ---- 17,422
3---- Sydney FC ----- --- 48,685 ----16,228
4---- Adelaide United ---- 31,291---- 10,430
5 ----Perth Glory ---- ---- 23,264 ----7,754
6---- Newcastle Jets ---- 15,237-------- 7,618
7---- Central Coast Mariners ----13,083---- 6,541
8---- New Zealand Knights---- 13,203---- 2,640
Australian A-League Unofficial Average Attendance: 11,674
So if my maths is correct, take NZ out of the competition and the average moves up to 12,965. One team knocks 1291 people off the entire leagues average. Piss poor.
We're only roughly 200 up on last years total average attendance at this point, but that will surely go up a fair bit once we've played out our games at TD.
The SFC game will probably be another 40k job.
So all in all, season two, but for one aberration, is looking like a big success. If SFC would pull their weight a bit better, we'd be in even better shape at this stage.

based on that, you have to say that melbourne, Sydney and Queensland are the success stories. Adelaide is alright, while Newcastle and CCM are pretty average. But looking at that, it looks as if they have only two home figures for both NJ and CCM?

Ignore the total attendances, some of them are wrong. But the averages are spot on. Just worked them out.

Was going to say they are wrong.
Victory has had approx 150,000 people through the gates.... at an average of 26k.
But we are holding up the league.... if wasn't for our attendances the league would be down on last season.
Also intrestingly Matt Carroll has said our viewing ratings and website hits... is mile ahead of any other team.

Those stats appear to be out-dated.

Newcastle and Perth could easily get their numbers up with the right results and management. Central Coast could improve marginally, but they are never going to pull big crowds. Adelaide really should be doing better.

I've recalculated the numbers, yourfather has sold Melbourne short among others.
The figures (from the A-League website) are:

Melbourne Victory have had major growth compared to 2005/06, thanks to moving to a larger capacity ground (2005/06 average was 14,158). Also increasing have been Sydney FC (16,669 to 17,047), Queensland Roar (14,785 to 16,411), Adelaide United (10,947 to 11,417) and Central Coast Mariners (7,899 to 8,287).
Clubs that have declined this season are Perth Glory (9,734 to 8,110), Newcastle Jets (8,912 to 7,498) and New Zealand Knights (3,909 to 3,277).
Overall, the average of 12,203 compared favourably to last season's average of 10,955. Very pleasing for the A-League to see such an increase, and good for the health of the game.
If the NZ Knights weren't there, the average would be significantly higher - they are holding the league back and I suspect they will be euthenased at the end of this season. Scum Forum

"Version 2" is not a huge success if you ask me, lucky for the FFA that you guys moved to the dome, even if you sold out OP every week, the average attendance for the whole league would be down

Not true.
Apart from Melbourne. Sydney, QLD, Adelaide and Central Coast have all increased their attendence averages.
NJ and Perth Glory are letting everyone down.

Melbourne are the obvious best performers this time, but i think if you put it into perspective then this season has been a great success so far. Not everyone is going to pull crowds anywhere near us, and apart from NJ and PG their is still growth in the aussie clubs. I think you will see a bit of a rise for the attendances as we get towards the finals with things getting a bit more exciting. Does finals games go twards the team average by the way?

Newcastle take away the weeks they were losing and there attendences must be up. Last week they would've got there biggest crowd but the weather was terrible. Alot like that Central coast game the weather was terrible so the averages go down. Also what about AFL for perth that killed there attendences. There are alot of factors but when teams have good weather and no other major sports are on the usually get some very good crowds for there region.
Acception NZ.

All right without Dwight
By John Taylor
November 07, 2006
The first year of the A-League was a novelty and the $64 million question was how the fans would react to version two, especially after Dwight Yorke left the country.
The former Sydney FC captain was seen as a meal ticket for the seven other clubs. Yorke's popularity put bums on seats.
There are no real big names like Yorke playing here now, although Sydney had a brief flirtation with Italy's Benito Carbone, yet the crowds have increased by 8.24 percent at the halfway mark of the all-important second season.
Perhaps club football is riding the wave of success of Guus Hiddink's gallant World Cup Socceroos.
Then again, there's the Melbourne Victory factor, with its Brazil influence.
Victory finished last of the seven Australia clubs in year one but is a breath of fresh air this season, both on and off the field.
Not only it it running away with the minor premiership - nine points clear of second-placed side Adelaide - but is averaging crowds of 26,589 in six home games.
The Victory, which now has 11,000 members, has attracted so much interest the club can't accommodate all its fans at Olympic Park, and hence the move to Telstra Dome.
Despite all the drama at Sydney FC this season, the defending champion is still averaging crowds of just over 17,000, which is slightly better than last season.
Adelaide and Central Coast crowd figures are also up, while Queensland Roar is marginally down but still very healthy at 16,411.
More than two million have watched the A-League on Fox Sports this season. The average audience is up 22 percent and the reach per round is up by 29 percent.
In addition, Fox Sports now beams a weekly A-League highlights program internationally.
It covers a potential audience of 35 million viewers from the United States, Caribbean, Canada, Middle East, Africa, Turkey and Israel.
Football Federation Australia are delighted with the exposure of the A-League, both at home and internationally, and merchandising sales are up by 20 percent.
With the exception of our friends from across the Tasman, the standard of football hasn't dropped.
If anything, it's better because of the way Melbourne and Newcastle is playing.
But FFA chairman Frank Lowy and his men have to think seriously about New Zealand and what value it is to the competition.
For a start, New Zealand is just not promoting its own players - and the good ones are playing for Australia clubs.
The FFA Head of Operations Matt Carroll said that the Knights are a disappointment - "a disappointment to themselves as well and to New Zealand football".
"I guess we are somewhat bound because they have a licence. We want eight teams. There is no reason why a football team cannot be a success in Auckland. We have to work hard with them to bring them along. But it is going to be challenging next year with the rugby World Cup," said Carroll.
He said that expansion of the league was two seasons away but there has been interest from Wollongong, North Queensland and the ACT.
FFA might just say a prayer for the Knights to fall over before year three.
pretty good article about the attendences

Thats great with Crowd figures and Audience levels up. I'm glad for fox aswell because they've put a lot of trust and money into the A-league so hopefully the ratings serve them well. I think the main thing that needs to be emphasised is that all you need is small steps. Melbournes had great success, but if A-league crowd levels keep raising (say by around 5% a year) then in 10 years we will be seeing great figures. I remember looking at NSL figures and seeing that a crowd of around 4K was around the best u'd get (apart from glory and clubs like Spirit for small amounts of time). Now we are striving for every australian club to get beyond the 10,000 mark (4 out of 7 is a start).

Yes.
But you have to look into it a bit closer. The main reason for such low numbers for Victory is that 2 out of our 5 away games (at the time of publishing) were against NZ Knights in North Harbour stadium.
If we include our 6th away game of the season - against Roar last Friday - our away average jumps up to 8,787.
The main reason Adelaide is leading the away crowd figures is because they have played us away twice. The first game resulted in a sold-out OP, while for the 2nd game we had over 32,000 people at TD.
Seeing that we provide such nice "away" numbers for our opponents, do not expect to see us in the top half of the "away attendances" table any time soon :).

In fact, after looking at our fixtures, I'd expect us to finish in the bottom 2 for the away attendances this season. We play the 3 biggest crowd-pulling teams (after us, of course) at their stadiums only once. I'm referring of course to Hindmarsh, Aussie and Suncorp.
