Socceroos to play Denmark - Reuters

Denmark will play a friendly against Australia in London on February 6, the Danish Football Association (DBU) says.

The DBU said the match would take place at Queens Park Rangers' Loftus Road stadium because weather conditions would be better than in Denmark and because a number of Australian and Danish players play for English clubs.

"Australia are a competent adversary and will prepare us for our European Championship qualifier against Spain six weeks later. Australia have shown good progress in the last few years," Denmark coach Morten Olsen said in a statement.

Denmark, the 1992 European champions, failed to qualify for the World Cup finals in Germany this year, while the Socceroos reached the last 16.

Denmark usually play a good attacking brand of football and are usually a decent side

good test for us, good test for them :)

Credit to the FFA for this one. A perfect match-up for the Aus team against quality European opposition. The Danish are generally competitive and will match Aus in all areas of the park.. I am looking forward to this one.

I know English is Olsen's second language but surely he could have come up with a better adjective than 'competent?'

Will be good to have another game for the euro based players in preperation for the Asia cup 4 months later.

It'll be a good test although Denmark are going through a transition period and aren't as good as they were in Euro 2004. They were disappointed to miss out on Germany 2006 but had a tough group with Greece, Turkey and Ukraine. Ukraine topped the group and Turkey won a play-off against Switzerland, which they lost. Denmark came third with 22 points.

They are currently second in their European Championship Qualifying Group behind Sweden. They've defeated Iceland and Liechtenstein (both away) and drew with Northern Ireland (at home).

Their defence is poor at the moment but with Jon Dahl Tomasson (used to play for AC Milan now with Vfb Stuttgart) they have a top class striker. Sorensen (don't know if he still plays for Villa) is a top goal keeper but will struggle with some a porous defence.

Their midfield is quite strong with Gravesen (ex-Everton and Real Madrid), Jorgensen (Fiorentina), Rommedahl (Charlton), Poulsen (Schalke) and Kahlenberg (Auxerre) all very good players.

They traditionally play a 4-5-1, which becomes a 4-3-3 on attack.

Likely line-up:

----------------------Sorensen-----------------------
Jacobsen---------Agger------Gravgaard-------N.Jensen
------------------Poulsen---Gravesen-----------------
Rommedahl-----------Kahlenberg-------------Jorgensen
---------------------Tomasson-----------------------

We will play a very similar formation. The problem with anyteam like this in the world is they all play as a team. So we have to also play as a team and have the quality to break down defenses. Do we have that quality i think we do but we are not a top 16 team atm which is our aim for 2010. We lack wide players Bresciano is good out there but is much better in the middle and as much i like Cahill he does not get enough of the ball to be an AM of the T16 quality. But then we are left with a whole down the wings we have Sterjovski and then A-league players. Blood youngsters Arnie. From my understanding Troisi is a winger why not try him out there he is play at necastle and was in there squad against Palermo. It is better then playing Archie,Dodd IMO give youth a chance. Also i think 17yr old Griffths is a winger also why not give him a chance. I don't understand why he is trying out A-league players who are in there late 20's.

Neither, it's simply what I hope for.

I think a loss to Ghana would be good for the Socceroos long term.

I think even with we do beat them Arnold is not good enough. I don't think we will anyway. Our team lacks alot of teamwork under Arnold and we make up for that by good individual talent to beat easy teams but teams with similar talent who play as a team will destroy us.

Qantas Socceroos to play Denmark
Tuesday, 7 November 2006

Football Federation Australia today announced that the Qantas Socceroos would continue their preparation for the 2007 AFC Asian Cup with an international match against Denmark in London on Tuesday 6 February 2007.

Loftus Road the home of Queens Park Rangers will host the match, which is also the venue for the Qantas Socceroos international against Ghana which will be played on Tuesday 14 November 2006.

Interim Coach Graham Arnold believes that the match will be another important step in preparing the team for Asia's biggest football event.

"Our goal is to be as successful as possible at the Asian Cup and games like the ones against Ghana and Denmark will give us the opportunity to get much needed preparation matches against high quality opposition," said Arnold.

"Denmark are former European champions and have started well in their Euro 2008 qualifiers so they will prove a tough opponent for us."

"Both matches are a great opportunity for Australians in Europe to support the team. A lot of fans travelled from London to Germany for the World Cup and we'd like to put in a good performance to thank them for their support."

Ranked 22nd in the World, Denmark will use the match to fine-tune ahead of a Euro 2008 qualifier against Spain the following month.

Denmark currently sit in second place in their Euro 2008 qualifying group behind Sweden.

Arnold also confirmed a change to the squad for the match against Ghana with Romania-based Ryan Griffiths coming into the squad after the withdrawal of Scott McDonald due to a hamstring injury.

Tickets for the match v Ghana are now on sale and range from £15 to £25. They are available from Ticketmaster (In the United Kingdom) on 0870 169 6874, www.ticketmaster.co.uk or from the Queens Park Rangers box office on 0870 112 1967.

Yeah, I'm not saying a win should allow him to keep his job. Simply that a loss would make the inevitable happen a hell of a lot faster....

Who will coach the socceroos for this match?

Why you may ask;

Because the following day, the U-23's kick off their Beijing Olympics qualifier against Chinese Taipai.

Hopefully it'll mean that Lowy will get off his arse and sign a new coach. Then Arnold can go to Taiwan and the Socceroos can get back to where they were with Hiddink!

i thought since our heroics at the world cup we would be able to pull 'better' nations.
But still Ghana, Denmark, Paraguay

i dont know, are we moving in the right direction. DO countries want to play us?

Paraguay regularly qualifies for the World Cup and is one of the toughest Sth American nations. Ghana were the best performed of the African nations at the World Cup and a real up-and-coming nation. Denmark are regularly ranked in the top 20 nations. They are regular World Cup and European Cup qualifiers, performing at a high level.

We're not going to be able to play Argentina, France, Italy and England every match!

we could of played denmark before we qualified for the wc
