View Full Version : Everybody hijack SEN: 9-11PM on Friday
Simon

As you may know SEN have cancelled some football shows from their programming (http://www.melbournevictory.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2419). As a result we mustn't lie down.
It's time to rebel!
This Friday between 9pm and 11pm there are no excuses for yourself not to ring up whatever show is on air and talk about football in what was the football timeslot.
It'll really pi55 them off and teach them.
Also sneak in a blast at SEN management if you have time.
Stand up for your sport!
... Simon.

Simon, I'm not suprised. The stations really struggling financially, and it seems that because of this, sacrifices with programing were needed.. Obviously football is not the most popular sport in Melbourne (or Adelaide), and hence the football shows were cancelled.

What is SEN!?
The only football programs we get down my way are on SBS (The World Game namely)
We need more though, they shouldn't be taking them off the air!

This is why they are being taken off.
My email to, and reply from SEN (huddo)
As you will see it is about the dosh.
Start transmission.............
Thanks for you comments regarding the soccer shows.
I am responding to you because at the moment we are undergoing a lot of changes and we do not have a Program Director to respond officially.
The changes to the 7-8 hour were about a broad-based change in philosophy and not designed to reduce the total amount of content given to one sport.
We do realize that soccer has been the major casualty but given there is a break in the EPL and local national leagues please give us some time to work out how we can give the sport the coverage it deserves.
We are still reviewing our weekend programming but I should point out that the netball show is sponsored by the Commonwealth Bank and as such is a financial positive one for the station.

We should start an A-league show sponored by Qanatas or Rebok or whatever. Sen needs money sponsored shows So the FFA could have its own show or The Victory could have it's own show.

When Mark Doran came on at 7 pm on Monday I e-mailed him about whether he will continue to have Diego Alberto etc. on Wednesdays to talk about football.
He read my e-mail on air and he said yes that tonight show still should have a football segment (I don't know what time)
This would be a good time to either call the station and ask what's happening with football programs on SEN
thenightwatchmen@sen.com.au
This will send e-mails to Mark Doran at the studio or

He's not that famous though Simon, I'm not suprised.
Nathan Buckley's mobile number is 0411 333 333, if anyone wanted to know.

I know he's not that famous but he's still in the most famous 1% of Melbournians :)
How do you know Buckley's number?

I was in the control room during Sports Today on Monday. I saw one of the producer's monitors, and it said when Buckley will be on, and said that his phone number was what I've stated above, obviously to call when they were ready.

Sen is going crazy at the minute, I still think there are financial issues. They lost Francis Leach who was prolly the most soccer friendly and best presenter there, he was the only person I bothered making an effort to listen to.
The round ball code on Wednesdays was good also.
Maybe their preparing the station for a sale to the AFL, but other than a few minor exceptions the stations 24/7 AFL and Cricket, and they ignore Soccer despites it growing popularity. I can switch on Foxtel, read the Hearld Sun and get ample coverage of these sports. Ohwell wont have to listen anymore.
One thing that did annoy me today which was Francis' last, he was criticised by a few callers for going on about 'The World Game' too much, FFS. Cause we don't get enough AFL coverage.

Chris Couch (who is incidentally one of the media managers for the Melbourne Storm) will be on sometime tonight. No idea whether Ralph Barba wil be on. Hopefully there will be a bit of football talk in between the AFL and tennis updates which Doran seems to be exciting us with early in his show.

What a joke. They might as well not do it at all if Doran is going to as condesending as he was tonight. Oh, let us all bow down in front of SEN studios for giving us an hour of football (Well at least a couple of minutes, once you take out all the sports updates, ads, and inane banter)!
If you don't count the one call who mentioned the Victory launch, (of the massive THREE calls they took!), the first mention of the Victory was at 9.57 where they spent ten seconds telling us the Victory are playing at Olympic Park.
I reckon they nearly talked as much AFL with all the 'updates' they were giving than they were football.
NOT HAPPY!

While I do agree that SEN's attitude towards football is sometimes condescending and tonight's coverage was 'tainted' by the crosses to the AFL game - I think we should 'encourage' and support any coverage of the sport on the station (thus my email which was read at the end by Mark Doran being appreciative about having football at that time).
I think that positive feedback (as well as complaints) can be useful, especially if you have brainless morons ringing up the station and complaining about 'too much soccer' as they done with Leach.
Doran mentioned that they have received plenty of calls and e-mails about dropping the football shows and this demonstrate to them that there is an audience.

They read my email ten minutes after I sent it and so got them talking about joining Asia and endless spinoffs from that for 2 minutes early in the show.
