Liverpool and Tottenham have been put on red alert after Italy striker Christian Vieri had his contract at Inter Milan surprisingly cancelled by mutual consent, reports Setanta.

The 32-year-old player has set his heart on a move to England and reports in Italy claim Tottenham could be his destination - but Liverpool have now quickly entered into the equation.

Inter said on their official website: "Inter and Christian Vieri have decided to rescind the player's contract by mutual consent with the club, due to expire on June 30 2006.

"Negotiations between the player and the club progressed smoothly, and the do***ents related to the issue were registered at the Lega Calcio (Football League) offices this morning.

"FC Internazionale thanks Christian Vieri for his contribution to the history of the club over the past six years.

"Christian Vieri thanks Inter and its fans for the professional respect and affection which characterised the relationship."

He is over the hill IMO.
Be a good pick up for a mid table club in the EPL.
Not good enough for Liverpool.
Should come back to his "home" country ;)

The only bit of football news in todays Sun said he wants to go to England.
I suppose its the Sun though
I do think he is over the hill but his style of play would suit the EPL.
Apparently Tottenham are his "likely" suitors.

Why not?
He is not good enough for any big clubs in Europe anymore.
If he doesn't go to Spurs, he'll go to a club equivalent to the size of Spurs somewhere else in Europe.

Internazionale have cancelled the contract of Christian Vieri, thus paving the way for him to move on.

The Italian international has been linked with a move to England and Tottenham Hotspur in the Italian media.

Vieri endured a difficult season with inter last term, with the player even falling out with the club's supporters.

The former Juventus man failed to hold down a regular place in the Inter side last season due to the emergence of Adriano and Obafemi Martins and Inter have decided to release him from his contract, which still had a year to run.

"Inter and Christian Vieri have mutually decided to rescind the contract that was due to expire on June 30, 2006 early," read a club statement.

"Negotiations between the player and the club progressed smoothly, and the do***ents related to the issue were registered at the Lega Calcio (Football League) offices this morning (Friday).

"FC Internazionale thank Christian Vieri for having contributed for six seasons to the history of the club.

"Christian Vieri thanks Inter and its fans for the professional respect and affection which characterised the relationship."

The news is sure to alert a number of clubs, with Tottenham thought to be keen on signing the 31-year-old.

It has also been suggested that Chelsea could be interested in the experienced striker, as they look to bolster their attack following the departures of Mateja Kezman and Mikael Forssell this summer.

A number of foreign sides are also thought to be chasing Vieri and there is sure to be no shortage of admirers for the former Lazio man.

Mate im not sure if you are saying that he wouldnt want to go to the Lane or the Lane wouldnt want him.

He would be a good 2 year investment and would be perfect to back up Defoe and Keane, and would also mean that we could sell Kanoute as long as Mido stays.

But he doesnt fit into the new structure that Spurs have taken on, we have spent the last 3 years changing us from being a team that takes on good players at the end of their prime to bringing up young British stars, reason why more and more Tottenham players are playing for England, Ireland and Wales.

The good thing is that he would not cost us a Transfer fee only that we would have to make a Wages agreemant.

Im not fussed if we get him or not but it would be good for our Supporters club to have a former Australian playing up front. And no Spase Dilevski didnt get us exposure!

IMO, Vieri should start over Defoe or Keane (or play with them) as he will fit the bill as a target man.
I reckon Spurs are a great side and a decent target man might do the trick to get you 3rd or 4th spot in the EPL.
Imagine Vieri with Defoe and Keane feeding off him.
It'd be alright :)

Yeah agree, we have needed that "Holding Striker" the last 12 months and when Kanoute has done well we have made a Joke out of teams (ie- 5-1 Villa, 5-2 Everton).

But what worries me is that he is 32 and past his best and we have a new structure that got rid of signing these players. But as it looks as though it will be a free transfer if it goes through its not like we are going to have another Rebrov like transfer when we lose 10m pounds.

As far as im concerned if he agree's to come good, we can offload Kanoute to WBA for 5m pounds. If he wants to go to Spain fine. Im not holding my breath over it. We waited 2 years for Van Bommel and after 2 years of him saying im coming, im coming, he signs for Barca!

I agree Beazels. I think Keane, Dafoe and Vieri would make a very nice combination and help you push your way up the table.
