Just heard that Richard Johnson has just signed for the Jets.

Good signing for them.
If you find any other signings, put them in here and we can all have a look.

It is good to see the Jets sign Richard Johnson, because if I'm correct he left Australia for Watford at a young age and he never played any NSL games.

It is great see someone like him come back in the 1st season of the A-League and he is only about 30 years old so he still has a few years left to play.

He has a lot to offer Newcastle and the A-League.
Do you tihnk he would be getting similar money to what he was getting at QPR?
It would be less wouldn't it, or are Newcastle over the salary cap as well?

What do you guys think of that young Serbian goalkeeper who signed for Perth? They reckon he might even be a first team keeper

An interesting signing, though I do not know much about him. It will be interesting to see with the signing of this goalkeeper, whether or not they will try to re-sign Jason Petkovic?

Yer they want to as do Adelaide United, even thought they already have a decent goalkeeper in Daniel Beltrame

It looks like Arie Haan will the coach of Sydney FC. It was reported in The Age and also on tribalfootball.com

Sydney have signed Ufuk Talay. http://www.tribalfootball.com/january/austnews1060105.html
Sydney are putting a decent squad together.
Can't wait until we play them.
Here is the Haan link for Sydney as well.

They are doing very well for themselves at the moment.
Haan has some very good clubs under his belt.

Franco Parisi, decent signing.
Wouldn't have minded him at Victory, but we will find better.
Don't know if Parisi will start at the Jets.
Any thoughts?

Well with Nick Carle and Ante Milicic there it is going to be hard to get a starting position ahead of them, although Milicic and Parisi worked well together during their time at Olympic Sharks.

Central Coast signed Petrie, Vukovic, Kwasnik, and Hutchinson. Hutchinson snobbed an offer from Victory aswell.

Central Coast almost have their entire squad now, do they have a supporter base to match?

I think they do and Central Coast seem confident they can get one. It's a great opportunity for Gosford because they don't have any sporting teams in any national competition, so they can really get behind football.

They are expecting an average of 10,000 for the season. Crowds that is.

I knew of Gosford but was really suprised when I heard a team was going to be based there. They have done their business swiftly and intelligently from what I can see so far.
Havent really signed anyone too outstanding or exciting from what I can see.

Mrdja, Pondeljak, and Gumprecht could have stepped into any other team they wanted, but apart from that your right its not too exciting.

They have 2 spots available. They have to sign an U/20 player and the other one will probably be a marquee player.

Those three were good signings, but not pulled from overseas, just players of the NSL.
The marquee player will be interesting.
Are clubs allowed to sign more than 20 at all?
I suppose there are no under 20's or reserve competitions. Maybe an idea for the future.

Nah 20 people per side which makes you wonder. If injury settled into the team they would seem very small indeed.

I don't get you on that idea for the future. How is no reserves competition a good idea?

BTW, if you look at the lists of confirmed signing on the FFA website, the Under 20's are listed in blue. For Perth, they have included that young goalkeeper from Serbia. Surely, the intention of the 3 u20's would have been for players eligible to play for Australia, for future development of national teams (the MLS in USA has a similar rule). To me, if overseas players can be used to fulfill the requirements then it makes a bit of a mockery of the whole thing. :(

The FFA should tighten up this loophole for future seasons.

I mean developing a reserves comp and a Under 20's comp is an idea for the future.
Of course it is not possible with such small squad lists now but I'm sure the squads will expand in the years to come.
I think it is an important thing for players who arent in the first team squad to be able to have a light run in the reserves, to keep their fitness up.

Labinot Haliti has gone to Newcastle Jets theres a signing. And im guessing David Tarka will go to Perth Glory, Vanja Ivesa (remember him?) might be going to Jets, and Travis Dodd to Adelaide.

I dont think a reserves league would work unless matches were played on the same day as the top side otherwise it would be too expensive. Better to lend them to a state league club. But I do think a national youth league is a good idea.

Vanja Ivesa now there's a blast from the past! Wasn't he a Croatian goalkeeper who played at Sydney Utd? If I remember correctly he only played one season and did quite well.

Yer thats him, Newcastle Jets want to sign him as backup goalkeeper. It says on their website.
