Vision Asia is the AFC's grand plan for a continent-wide programme to raise the standards of Asian football at all levels, be it on the field of play, administration or sports science.

Vision Asia is the creation of AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam, who launched the programme in September 2002. A year later, after much fine-tuning, Hammam unveiled Vision Asia as a well-defined blueprint to international delegates and VIPs during the FIFA Congress in Doha, Qatar.

The President firmly believes that Asia, with its 3.7 billion population, has the potential to produce many world-class footballing nations. His ultimate goal is for an Asian team to one day win the FIFA World Cup.

Hammam has identified 11 disciplines - akin to 11 players on the football field - that Vision Asia must address if Asian countries are to catch up with their counterparts in Europe and the rest of the world.

They are: National Associations (goalkeeper); Marketing, Grassroots, Coach Education, Referees, Sports Medicine (defenders); Men's Competitions, Women's Competitions, Futsal (midfielders); Media, Fans (forwards).

AFC has already recruited experts with specialist skills in each discipline. These consultants are being assisted by development officers, one for each of the four zones - West Asia, Central/South Asia, South East Asia and East Asia. For the Vision Asia programme, Asia has been divided into four zones.

Good to see they are like us and "getting their act together" in terms of developing the regional football into World Class standards, a bit like football in our country. Australia with its good experience of Sports Administration and Sports Event Management can play a good helpful role in this regard

If Asia gets its act together the implications for Football in Australia can be immense

In the spirit of the fact we are playing them in the ACL, I'll start off with Chonburi

Vision Asia delegation members with officials from Chonburi.
KUALA LUMPUR: AFC’s Vision Asia delegation visited Thailand’s Chonburi province recently to assess the current status of football and to identify appropriate goals for football development.

Detailed discussions with the officials from Chonburi, including officials from the Thailand League champions Chonburi Football Club, were held during the assessment visit.

Vision Asia aims to develop football at all levels in the province, beginning with improving the organisational structure, reorganising competitions, developing coaches and referees and initiating structured grassroots and youth programmes. One of the initial objectives will be to establish a football association in Chonburi.

Thanasak Suraprasert, general secretary of Chonburi Football Club, expressed his commitment to the project. “We recognised that new structures need to be implemented to oversee all aspects and levels of football here in Chonburi. With the guidance and assistance of AFC, we look forward to fulfilling this objective.”

A tailor-made strategic plan for football development in Chonburi will be designed and agreed with the football officials in the province followed by immediate implementation.

Good thing, want to be able to have the infrastructural "strength" so to speak, spread around and nto jsut based in the capital. I guess the same can be said of Persik, who weren't able to play in their own home ground either

KUALA LUMPUR – AFC President Mohamed bin Hammam will meet with Chelsea officials at AFC House on Thursday, with the discussions focussing on the English Premier League side’s support for the Vision Asia project.

Announcing the meeting during his opening address for the 3rd AFC Executive Committee Meeting on Tuesday, Bin Hammam remarked:

“I want to put on record my appreciation to Chelsea in supporting development in Vision Asia, specifically Vision China.

“While some clubs come to Asia only look at increasing their revenue they have shown a genuine interest in development as well.”

The AFC President and Chelsea Chief Executive Peter Kenyon signed a four-year contract at AFC House back in March 2007, formalising Chelsea’s support for the Vision Asia programme.
