Whether it has been the Asia Cup, Asian Champions League, or the WCQ's (tonights game a perfect example), the quality of the officiating in Asia has been poor.
There needs to be something done about it.
The result tonight probably wont have any major impacts and future consequences, but one day, we're going to be watching the ACL Final, Asia Cup Final, or a game determining who goes to South Africa, and one team is going to get majorly fucked by a woeful refs decision.
This is much worse than the refs in Australia, the UK, and the rest of Europe.

Agree 100% from what I have witnessed in various competitions.

The referee who refereed Australia Qatar was majorly biased towards Australia. Tonight referee was biased towards China. I agree the officiating is poor, but its more than likely because these refs dont officiate high quality games week in week out and as a result pressure from home crowds to be lenient comes in to play a lot.

Corruption and Asian football.
I can see it one day ruining our hopes of glory.
We must never forget, larger countries with big populations therefore more "buying power" with regards to advertising etc will pull much more weight in international football than minnow nations. We are and always will be a small country footballl wise. There just isn't enough money in 21million people at the wrong end of the globe in a shit time zone.
FIFA, AFC and other governing bodies will always try to have the "bigger" countries involved in major comps at the expense of smaller ones.
I am not saying corruption is rife, but I will never forget the Italy penalty. In the 96th minute. There was only 4 mins of added time from memory. The ref just kept it fucken going.
anyway, enough conspiracies for one day. I am not paranoid, just look at my sig for proof

Well when Mark Shield is the best ref in asia (asia cup final), it tells you something about the rest.

Too right. What the hell was the ref thinking with that double footer on Holman/Wilkshire (cant remember which one it was).
JUST A FREE KICK FOR THAT!?!?....shouldve been a straight red, disgracefull tackle. Eduardo like.

Considering Australia is in the AFC, I agree! Shield and Breeze are just as bad as the muppet who didn't card Sun Ji Hi for the challenge on Holman tonight.
We have to get our own house in order before criticizing the rest of Asia as our refs are just as shit!

I have a bad feeling that this thread might become well used unfortunately if our brief time in the AFC is anything to go by

Need to improve, last qualifying campaign in the AFC Playoff between the 3rd placed teams in the two Round 4 Groups, Uzbekistan and Bahrain, there was an incorrect call by a Japanese ref in a game from a penalty encroachment in a game which Uzbekistan won 1-0, they complained and said they wanted a European ref for the second leg, instead FIFA annulled the result and there had to be a replay. That ended 1-1 and then 0-0 in Bahrain I think, so Bahrain ended up going through on away goals to a Playoff against Trinidad and Tobago.
Some of those calls tonight weren't proper really
Generally speaking, if we had have gotten knocked out by Croatia, on account of Simunic getting 2 yellows and not being sent from the field, we would have had legitimate grounds for the result to be annulled and a replay take place. I remember Blatter commenting on it, saying thye were lucky because any replay would have caused chaos
Personally I am kind of spewing Broxham made a point of reminding Oraqi ref that Chonburi player ahd 2 yellows because if it had gone unnoticed and we lost 2-1 we could have had the result annulled and had a replay. Mind you not the best place to have to go to twice in that heat

He was awful last night, but I don't think we can tar all Asian refs with the same brush.
The ref for Melbourne vs Chonburi was excellent, I felt.

I assume people are having a cry cos of the penalty?
So Schwarzer brings down a striker without getting a hand to the ball... how is that not a penalty?

It's not just that, although I felt on first glance he DID get the ball. Also, if he didn't, isn't it a clear goal scoring opportunity and a red card?
Anyway, I was more annoyed about Sun Ji Hai getting away with nothing on the Wilkshire tackle, and Carney's ridiculous booking in the first 15 minutes.

I just hate how hard these asians go in for a tackle but if u even stare at them long enough they fall over. Cunts

I thought he did too at first glance, but the replay shows he didn't and the ref was closer to the play than the television cameras.
A clear goal scoring opporunity would have been a red card, but I don't think it was, it was treated just as a foul in the box.
I agree, that tackle should have been a straight red.

Considering Shield is semi-pro and he is the best in Asia is saying something.

The tackle on Archie was lucky not to be a Red, tackles like that in the past have been dealt with more harshly.
The Wilkshire takle was amazing, flying 2 footed studs up and no card, absolute disgrace. It was a clear Red and Sun Jihi knew it because when Valeri gave him the square up he knew it was coming and he knew he deserved it because he appologised to Valeri after he got up off the ground.
the penalty, well I thought schawtzer got a hand on the ball and it was a dodgy call, but we have all seen penalties awarded for less and in the end justice was done.
Overall its the incisistancy within the referee ranks that bothers me. You get refs who dont like any contact at all, while some put up with a degree of rough stuff. You get ones that obviously have an attitude towards a particular side and are bias all the way through and you get some who think they are the star of the show.
Its a tough gig being a ref but it would be nice if the were consistant.
I do agree that if Mark Shield and that prick Breeze are the AFC's best, then we have a long way to go

mark shield is at least consistent - whenever he's officiating, i still breathe a bit easier.
but yeah, ref quality is inconsistent to say the least. the next graham poll is waiitng to happen in asia.
