This is a thread for the best supported team in South East Asia (IMO). Their supporters the "Ultras PSS" would rival most supporter groups in the Asian region in terms of colour, noise and numbers.

Their team is also pretty decent they won the first Liga Indonesia and made it to the Quarter Finals of the ACL in 1996.

Here is some photos and Videos of their fans:

You've mistaken two teams here. "Ultras PSS" are the supporters for PSS (from Sleman in Yogyakarta) not Persib Bandung.

You're right tho' that PSS have incredible support.

Here's what I posted in another thread about PSS's fans:

PSS from Yogya are my team. Here's their away support in Jakarta.

^ You can see how their "komandan" (capo) stands out the front to direct.

lol at ultras.

With 000s of active fans for each match, they'd be lol-ing at us frankly.

If they were that petty and arrogant.

They're mostly known as Laskar Slemania - which kind of loosely translates to Sleman (Crazy) Army.

Cheers, i feel a bit amateurish now :chef:

Don't. It's pretty hard to keep track of this stuff. You could get the mods to change the thread title to "PSS Sleman" :)

Thanks for the links to the blogs.

In fairness, discofever is right.

PSS are small fry compared to the Persija Jakarta fans. Check 'em out:

If Indo where to get things right in a professional sense i think they could become a real power in Asia because they have definitely got the passion for football.

It's strange driving through Jakarta Seletan (atleast I think it's Seletan, maybe not) and seeing graffiti saying 'The Jak' or 'Persija' on the side of rides, bridges, stalls...

They're kinda like the Southeast Asian version of us.

Both countries never got serious about developing the game properly and capitalising on its awesome potential until just recently. And both countries' domestic leagues are relatively new.

In a country where 36 million live on less than $2 a day, they're not going to catch up quickly to the South Koreans or Japanese - but I really hope they can close the gap.

Football in Indonesia - at club level or for big international games, or even playing in village sides like I did - is an unbelievable experience. And one that' s just as valid and important as anything going on elsewhere around the globe.

IMVHO.

Football is big and getting bigger. It's helped by the fact that they have EPL live free to air in prime time on Saturday nights. They also have regular coverage of the other European leagues which is why the supporter culture is similar (despite it being in SEA).

Former president Wahid was also a football commentator and used to write news paper columns on the sport before his political career.

I'm not sure if this is the same case with Indonesia (as i have never been) but i can say that other South East Asian countries like Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam are nuts about football.

When i was in Cambodia and Vietnam over the summer there were at least 4 football channels showing games and highlights from Serie A, La Liga, EPL, Ligue 1, Bundesliga and Dutch Eredevsie. It was incredible.

Also all the kids were playing small sided games in the streets with these balls that were woven out of bamboo. I know these places don't have the money of a Japan or Sth Korea, but they have the raw passion to propel this region into a very strong footballing area.

I really don't think the average Australian realises how absolutely huge Asian football is going to become andhow important it is that we are part of it. I'm not talking just about the sport angle I'm talking about how its going to help (imo) our cultural integration into Asia.

I would love to read any articles about the growth of football in Asia, I'm very glad this subforum exists!

It's similar in Indonesia. They get EPL and La Liga games on Free to Air tv (and maybe Serie A) but the also get all UEFA cup, FA Cup, ACL games on pay-tv. Everywhere you go you see people wearing football shirts. There's a thousand and one football pitches around. And even when there isn't a football pitch, kids are having a kick.

Ultras schmultras. I'm not here to debate what makes an group ULTRAS, but I'm pretty sure there's nothing in the rule book about having to have deep macho voices like the in Europe

That said, they still ride scooters :smartass:

Who gives a fuck, anyway. I've seen plenty of football all over the globe, and pound for pound* these guys are as commited as any fan you'll see.

* average weight of a fan would be about 55kg. Sewious.
