Should be an interesting tournement. We've got a lot of injuries so it'll be tough but the squad is decent. The group is tough, but nothing we can't handle, it'll just be how they play on the day.

The Matildas have kicked off their AFC Asian Women's Cup campaign with a comfortable 4-0 win over group underdog Chinese Taipei in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Heather Garriock scored twice in the first half and was backed by goals from Jenna Tristram and Lisa De Vanna in the second half.
Coach Tom Sermanni did not play many of his big name players, saving them for the later games against Korea Republic and Japan in the coming days ahead.

Matildas reign over Chinese Taipei (http://www.the-afc.com/eng/articles/viewArticle.jsp_166822039.html)
http://images.the-afc.com/images/common/articleimage/primary/australia%20v%20chinese%20taipei_action_primary.jp g
Heavy rain lashed the Thong Nat Stadium making conditions difficult for Australia and Chinese Taipei.
HO CHI MINH CITY - Heather Garriock scored twice as Australia got their 2008 AFC Women's Asian Cup campaign off to the ideal start by defeating Chinese Taipei 4-0 at a rain-soaked Thong Nat Stadium on Thursday.
Garriock opened the scoring in the 18th minute shortly before heavy rain lashed down on the pitch for the remainder of the half.
But Australia adapted best to the difficult conditions as Garriock completed her brace just before the break while second-half strikes from Jenna Tristram and Lisa De Vanna ensured a winning start for the Matildas in Group B.
Australia made a shaky start as Chinese Taipei had the first real chance on goal in the 10th minute when Yu Hsiu-chin headed just wide from a corner.
However, Tom Sermanni's side took the lead eight minutes later when Ellyse Perry lofted a cross from the right that goalkeeper Huang Feng-chiu flapped unconvincingly at and only succeeded in pushing the ball back into the danger zone where Garriock pounced to fire home.
Soon after the skies opened up as torrential rain began to pour down but it did little to halt the Matildas as they continued to attack.
Tristram headed onto the bar eight minutes before the break before Perry's fine drive from 30-yards was tipped over by Huang.
But it was no surprise when Australia extended their lead just before the break as Garriock side-footed home from close range.
Tan Wen-lin spurned a glorious opportunity to reduce the deficit seconds after the restart when she capitalised on an attempted clearance by goalkeeper Lydia Williams on the edge of the area but sent her shot into the side netting.
And Australia went further ahead in the 50th minute when Tristram brought down a hopeful high ball in the area and though she didn't get enough behind her initial shot on the waterlogged pitch, she stabbed home at the second attempt.
Huang made a fine save to deny Tristram a second a minute later when one-on-one while the Chinese Taipei strikers almost profited from the heavy pitch on a couple of occasions before the Matildas' defence snuffed out the danger.
Australia rounded off the victory with ten minutes remaining when a miss-kick by a Chinese Taipei defender allowed substitute De Vanna to charge down on goal before sending a shot beyond the goalkeeper and into the net.

Sermanni relief after tough opener (http://www.the-afc.com/eng/articles/viewArticle.jsp_166822041.html)
http://images.the-afc.com/images/common/articleimage/primary/australia%20v%20chinese%20taipei_aus%20coach_tom%2 0sermanni_primary.jpg
Australia coach Tom Sermanni was delighted to score four past Chinese Taipei despite the difficult conditions.
HO CHI MINH CITY - Australia coach Tom Sermanni admitted he was relieved to see his side open their campaign with a victory after running out 4-0 winners over Chinese Taipei at a drenched Thong Nat Stadium on Thursday.
Heather Garriock scored twice, while Jenna Tristram and Lisa De Vanna also found the back of the net to help the Matildas begin their Group B campaign in convincing fashion.
However, after Garriock had opened the scoring in the 18th minute, torrential rain turned the rest of the encounter into little more than a lottery as the ball regularly came to a stop in the large areas of standing water dotted around the pitch.
Sermanni, who fielded a youthful line-up, was therefore pleased just to get three points on the board against what is probably the weakest team in their group.
"Given the conditions I was delighted to win the match and delighted with the four goals," he said.
"I think Chinese Taipei made things very difficult for us, particularly early in the game. They were very organised defensively and they were dangerous on the counter-attack.
"Once the rain came, it changed the condition of the match completely and it became very difficult to play football.
"I thought both teams adapted extremely well to the conditions in the second-half and we were just pleased to come out as winners. It was a tough game.
"We made quite a few changes so you're always concerned when you do that, there will be a lack of cohesion, a lack of harmony," he added.
"We did have quite a few young, inexperienced players out there and sometimes that showed but overall, I was pleased with how they handled the conditions and how we played."
Sermanni also felt Chinese Taipei had made plenty of progress in the period since Australia thrashed them three times in 2007, the last of which was an 8-0 drubbing in August.
"I think they've made a lot of headway since last year," he said.
"They have some talented players in the team. I think some of the results last year were one-sided, if I'm being honest, because of the tactics.
"Tonight they made life very difficult for us to break them down and they were always dangerous when they broke."
Coach Chen Shu-chin, meanwhile, was satisfied with Chinese Taipei's performance despite the defeat.
"I think our players did their best," Chen said
"We lost 4-0 but the players carried out my tactics so I'm happy with the final score.
"We've been in training camps since early May, which is not long, but I think the skills of the players have improved.
"The team is also very young and physically we're still behind Australia but in the future we hope we can match teams in this area."
Seeing as this is a generalised thread
Park double downs Japan (http://www.the-afc.com/eng/articles/viewArticle.jsp_166822042.html)
http://images.the-afc.com/images/common/articleimage/primary/korea%20republic_park%20hee%20young%20v%20japan_pr imary.jpg
Park Hee-young scored twice as Korea Republic came from a goal down to defeat Japan 3-1.
HO CHI MINH CITY - Korea Republic battled back from a goal down to defeat Japan 3-1 in their opening game in Group B of the AFC Women's Asian Cup at Thong Nat Stadium on Thursday.
An own goal by Kim Yoo-mi gave Japan a ninth minute lead but a defensive mistake allowed Cha Yun-hee to equalise soon after.
Park Hee-young then scored a goal either side of half-time and, despite late pressure from Japan, the Koreans defended well to secure the victory.
After a slow start Japan took the lead in fortuitous fashion when a cross into the box in the ninth minute evaded the defence and found Yuki Nagasto free on the right.
The 20-year-old forward then drilled a powerful effort that goalkeeper Kim Jung-mi punched towards Korea Republic skipper Kim Yoo-mi, who could only watch in horror as the ball rebounded off her and into the empty net.
However, the Koreans did not let their heads drop and were level just eight minutes later.
Japan defender Hiromi Ikeda picked up the ball on the edge of her area but failed to clear quickly and Cha Yun-hee robbed her of possession before firing into the net.
Cha nearly added a second in the 16th minute when she outpaced the Japanese defenders chasing a long ball over the top but her low shot was saved by Nozomi Yamago.
Japan had a chance of their own soon after when Mizuho Sakaguchi headed Aya Miyama's cross goalwards but keeper Kim Jung-mi was equal to the effort.
But it was the Koreans who went ahead on the half-hour mark when Cha picked up the ball on the right of the area before sending a low cross into the box that Park managed to sweep home through a clutch of defenders.
Japan started the second half strongly and dominated possession but struggled to create meaningful chances in the final third.
And they were punished in the 54th minute when Korea Republic further extended their lead as Park latched onto a pass inside the box and her drilled effort from the right was helped into the net by goalkeeper Yamago.
An Ik-soo's side came close to adding another goal just before the hour mark when Cha was brought down on the edge of the area but Hong Kyung-suk's free-kick went straight into the grateful hands of Yamago.
Japan pressed forward as the game headed towards a close with both Homare Sawa and Miyuki Yanagati going close while Mizuho Sakaguchi rattled the post but they were unable to break a resolute Korean defence.
Also from the 28th we had China beating Vietnam 1-0 and North Korea beating Thailand 5-0

Matildas make it win number two
Sunday, 1 June 2008
Ellyse Perry (centre) celebrates with team mates Australia are just a whisker away from a semi final berth at the AFC Women's Asian Cup after a solid 2-0 win over South Korea tonight at the Thong Nat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Defender Ellyse Perry scored a deserved opening goal for Australia hitting a spectacular low drive from 30 yards on the half hour mark.
The Matildas doubled their advantage mid-way through the second half with Lisa De Vanna racing onto a Heather Garriock pass to outpace the defence and finish past an exposed Korean goalkeeper.
Australia were impressive in dominating possession and created numerous goal scoring opportunities throughout the match while at the other end Australian goalkeeper Melissa Barbieri was rarely troubled.
"It was an extremely pleasing result not only in terms of the scoreline but also the football performance," said coach Tom Sermanni.
"We dominated lengthy periods of the match but couldn't quite convert that into goals but aside from that it was extremely pleasing.
"We now have to focus on regrouping and focussing our energies towards the Japan match tomorrow."
The match started promisingly for Australia with Garriock twice testing the goakeeper with volleyed efforts on target. The early pressure gathered momentum and eventually told with the opening goal. Collette McCallum's free kick on the edge of the penalty area struck the wall and rebounded to fullback Perry who rifled an impressive low first time strike.
Australia had claims for a penalty after Kate Gill appeared to be pulled down as a McCallum corner caused chaos in the penalty area.
Australia lost skipper Cheryl Salisbury to a calf injury and soon after came South Korea's best chance of the match some five minutes before the break with the No 8 shooting into the arms of a well positioned Barbieri.
Australia started the second half strongly with a sublime through ball from McCallum hunted down with typical speed by De Vanna who prodded her shot wide under heavy challenge from a Korean defender.
The match started to open up as Korea dispensed with a conservative approach that was evident in the first half with De Vanna and Garriock proving particularly dangerous. It was those two that combined with a driving Garriock run from halfway ending with De Vanna stabbing an awkward chance over from close range.
Korea attempted to lift their attacking tempo but the defensive quarter of Perry, Clare Polkinghorne, Di Alagich and substitute Kate McShea defended resolutely.
A Garriock cross saw Gill knock the ball down but De Vanna blazed over from 15 yards.
Moments later though De Vanna celebrated her 50th cap in style with a goal like many that have gone before; easily outrunning a square defence and slipping the ball comfortably past the goalkeeper.
It was nearly two for De Vanna soon after with the impressive Colthorpe winning the ball as she had done throughout the match, feeding De Vanna whose dipping effort was well tipped over the bar.
McCallum hit the crossbar in the dying stages with a snap shot from outside the penalty area after a Gill layoff, and then substitute Caitlin Munoz' spectacular overhead kick was directed towards goal but too high to trouble the goalkeeper.
The win means Australia face Japan on Monday needing just a draw to guarantee top spot in Group B and with it a semi final appearance. Australia could still miss out on the semi finals if they lose to Japan, and South Korea secure a heavy victory over Chinese Taipei.
Australia now meet Japan in the final group game on Monday at 8pm (AEST).

Vietnam beat Thailand 1-0, and North Koreas beat China 1-0 to top the group

Doan Thi Kim celebrates scoring the winner against Thailand as Vietnam end a worthwhile campaign.
HO CHI MINH CITY - Vietnam coach Chen Yun Fa believes his players have benefited greatly from their participation in the AFC Women's Asian Cup after they ended their campaign with a 1-0 win over Thailand on Sunday.
Vietnam had looked like they would bow out of the tournament without a victory and a goal before Doan Thi Kim struck with 21 minutes remaining at Thong Nat Stadium to secure a morale-boosting victory over their South East Asia rivals.
The result also meant the hosts claimed third place in Group A while Thailand finished bottom having failed to secure a point in any of their three games.
And Chen admitted he was delighted to see his side finish their participation in the competition on a high note.
"The feeling of winning is so different to the feeling of losing," said the Chinese national.
"I am very happy and my players have made some big improvements since playing in this tournament.
"This was an excellent match with two strong teams who both tried their best.
"However we created many opportunities and got the important goal.
"I would like to thank my staff, players and all of Vietnam for an excellent tournament."
Thailand coach Chana Yodprang, meanwhile, was philosophical in defeat and instead drew on the positives the Asian Cup have given both himself and his team.
The Thais managed to score just once in three games while conceding 11 goals but Chana feels it has been a valuable learning experience for his squad.
"I must congratulate Vietnam for their win," he said.
"The condition of the pitch made things difficult for us and it was disappointing not to win but it happens.
"It has been good experience, not only for the players but for myself on the management side of things."
Chana is now looking towards the future and believes he has seen enough from his young side's performances to feel there is cause for optimism for the future.
"The team is a good team and they are very young," he added. "We will keep them together as we look to build for the future.
"The last six games we played against Vietnam we performed well and hopefully we can punish them in the future."

Ri Un-gyong (right) celebrates her winner against China with DPRK skipper Ri Kum-suk.
HO CHI MINH CITY - Ri Un-gyong's 34th minute goal gave DPR Korea a 1-0 victory over China at Army Stadium as they claimed top spot in Group A of the AFC Women's Asian Cup on Sunday.
DPR Korea held the upper hand throughout but were unable to convert their superiority into goals and had to rely on the midfielder's long-range strike to ensure they will face the Group B runners-up in the last four, while China will now face the winners.
A largely uninspiring first period saw chances few and far between as DPR Korea dominated possession but poor distribution in the final third saw them rebuffed by a resolute Chinese defence.
China did suffer a setback after 15 minutes when defender Yuan Fan picked up an injury and was replaced by Lou Jiahui.
DPR Korea then had the first meaningful attempt on goal when Kim Kyong-hwa's corner was nodded back across the face of goal by Ri Kum-suk and keeper Zhang Yanru was forced to tip the ball over the bar.
Xu Yuan then tried her luck from 30 yards just after the half-hour mark but her weak shot dribbled through to Korea keeper Jon Myong-hui.
Kim Kwang-min's side then took the lead in slightly fortuitous circumstances when Bi Yan collided with referee Tammy Ogston when trying to challenge Ri Un-gyong and the midfielder strode forward before hitting a low drive from 30 yards with her left foot that skidded past Zhang and into the back of the net.
China tried to hit back immediately as Bi found Lou Xiaoxu but her shot from the edge of the area was easily gathered by Jon before a defensive slip let in Wang Kun but her weak effort was also failed to extend the DPR Korea keeper.
Kil Son-hui came close to doubling Korea's lead eight minutes after the break but her low strike from distance flew just the wrong side of Zhang's right-hand post.
Song Jong-sun's jinking effort ended in a left-foot effort from 25 yards that Zhang did well to hold before Kim Yong-ae also called the China keeper into action.
Some slick build-up play then saw Jo Yun-mi slip Kim Yong-ae in with just over 15 minutes to go but Zhang stood up well to deny her from an acute angle before Song's attempt from distance flew just over the bar and Ri Un-suk flashed an effort across the face of goal as DPR Korea were forced to settle for a narrow margin of victory.
Kim: We had to work hard for win (http://www.the-afc.com/eng/articles/viewArticle.jsp_167018523.html)

DPR Korea (in white) and China battled hard as the two semi-finalists fought for top spot in Group A.
HO CHI MINH CITY - DPR Korea coach Kim Kwang-min insisted his side were made to battle for their 1-0 win over China at Army Stadium on Sunday that saw them finish top of Group A in the AFC Women's Asian Cup.
Ri Un-gyong scored the only goal of the game after 34 minutes to settle a contest that would decide who finished first and second in the standings - both sides had already qualified for the semi-finals - in DPR Korea's favour.
Kim's charges dominated the majority of the encounter, pinning China back for large periods and spurning opportunities as they seemingly cruised to victory.
But the DPR Korea coach insisted the game was a lot tougher than it looked.
"The weather was very unfavourable for us, it was hot and the pitch was wet, it was not at all easy," he said.
"Physically, we were lacking. We missed chances because our players' ability may not have been as good as they were tired.
"This match was the last in the group and for us it was not so important as we had already qualified.
"We could finish first or second in the group, that was what was at stake, but a match is a match and we always challenge so we tried our best."
China coach Shang Ruihua was pleased with his side's improvement after the break having been under pressure for the majority of the first-half but admitted they were up against a difficult opponent.
"I think our players performed very well," he said.
"In the first-half, we defended very well but didn't control the ball as well in midfield but in the second-half we changed things and improved.
"I think the technical ability of the players is also a problem but I think in the first and second half of today's match, we played very differently.
"DPR Korea have some very good players, although 11 (Ri Un-gyong) is a bit slow and their goalkeeper (Jon Myong-hui) isn't very good but, you know, in some positions our team doesn’t have very good players.
"We are trying to train the young players but before the Olympic Games, we need to have some older, more experienced players.
"Today, we tried very hard but I think the self-confidence is still a problem."

Matildas reach Asian Cup semis despite Japan loss (http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/InsideFFA/default.aspx?s=insideffa_newsfeatures_newsitem&id=22386)
Monday, 2 June 2008
Australia have narrowly claimed a semi final berth at the 2008 AFC Women's Asian Cup on goal difference ahead of South Korea, after a 3-1 loss to Japan tonight in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
All three teams finished on six points but Australia qualified second in the group with a goal difference of 7-3 ahead of the Korean's goal difference of 5-3.
Australia will now meet Asia's top ranked side DPR (North) Korea in the semi final on Thursday (7pm AET). The other semi final will feature Japan and China.
Australia were down 2-0 at half time in a match again played in humid conditions, with rain later in the first half making for slippery conditions.
The Matildas were forced to rely on a rare goal from defender Clare Polkinghorne with 20 minutes remaining to progress to the next stage after being 3-0 down five minutes into the second half.
With a three way head-to-head being the first determining factor, Australia would have fallen behind South Korea in the race for the semi finals but for Polkinghorne's goal. With Japan ahead amongst the three teams that were equal on points, and goal difference equal between Australia and South Korea in matches featuring all three teams, goal difference across the entire group was the final determining factor.
"Whilst I am disappointed with the result and that we some lapses of concentration in defence, I am delighted with the character the team showed in claiming a semi final spot," says coach Tom Sermanni.
"Our team showed tremendous sprit and determination to come from behind to pull the goal back that we ultimately needed to reach the semis.
"Although the Japanese team had a largely changed line-up from the match two days ago, we had virtually the same team yet we finished the stronger which is a testament to this group of players."

Was watching the highlights from the Korea game last night (that I'd taped from Sunday night) and there was CONSTANT chanting and singing and drumming from the Korean supporters, also jeering and booing and whistling whenever the Matilda's got the ball. They had some good tunes, I must say, mixed it up a bit. Couldn't see what the Korean supporters looked like, if they had banners or flags or whatever as the stands appeared to be empty, the spectators must have been on the same side as the camera was shooting from.

Some lead up commentary going into the Semi Finals
DPRK are favourites says Sermanni (http://www.the-afc.com/eng/articles/viewArticle.jsp_167051334.html)
http://images.the-afc.com/images/common/articleimage/primary/australia%20v%20japan_aus%20coach_tom%20sermanni_p rimary.jpg
Australia coach Tom Sermanni believes that the Matildas are the underdogs in their semi-final clash with DPR Korea.
HO CHI MINH CITY - Australia coach Tom Sermanni believes his side are the underdogs going into their AFC Women's Asian Cup semi-final clash with DPR Korea at Thong Nat Stadium on Thursday.
Despite being without nine players who represented the Matildas at the World Cup last year, Australia have performed well in the competition so far and progressed from Group B having won two of their three games.
Their only defeat came against Japan in their final game as they put in a somewhat lethargic performance to lose 3-1.
Australia have had two days to recuperate ahead of their tricky game against DPR Korea - the number one ranked team in Asia - and though Sermanni knows his players are in for a difficult test, he feels anything can happen in the semi-finals.
"I am pleased that we are still in the mix," he said.
"We are very much the underdogs but once you get to the semi-final stage of a competition anything can happen.
"The semi-finals have a strange way of throwing up unpredictable results so hopefully things will work in our favour."
DPR Korea have a perfect record in the tournament so far having defeated China, Vietnam and Thailand in the group stage.
And Sermanni, who is waiting on the fitness of captain Cheryl Salisbury, admits his side will need to be at their best if they are to secure a place in the final.
"North Korea are a formidable team," he added. "It will be very difficult against them as they relentless.
"They seem to have players all over the field as they cover a lot of ground.
"It is important for us to match them physically and get our tactics right to give us the best chance to win the game."
Despite being one of the favourites to lift the Asian Cup, DPR Korea coach Kim Kwang-min is refusing to take the game lightly.
The North Koreans eased through to the semi-finals with three wins out of three though they had a comparatively easier group than Australia and managed just a narrow 1-0 victory over China - their toughest opponent in Group A.
"In the group stage we used the matches against Thailand and Vietnam as preparation for the other games in this competition," said Kim.
"The weather here is not good for us and we used these games to get used to the heat and humidity.
"The game against Australia will not be easy for us. It will be a very hard game but we will do out best to get through.
"We have prepared as best we can for this game, focusing on the rehabilitation of our physical condition and we should be ready."
Japan have improved, warns Shang (http://www.the-afc.com/eng/articles/viewArticle.jsp_167051337.html)
http://images.the-afc.com/images/common/articleimage/primary/china%20v%20japan_pc_coach_shang%20ruihua_primary. jpg
China coach Shang Ruihua knows that the defending champions will face a tough challenge from a vastly improved Japan side.
HO CHI MINH CITY - Coach Shang Ruihua believes Japan will provide a stern test as China look to keep alive their hopes of retaining their AFC Women's Asian Cup when the two sides meet in the semi-final at Thong Nat Stadium on Thursday.
China finished second in Group A to earn their place in the knock-out stage having won two of their three games but their two victories came against hosts Vietnam and Thailand while they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Asia heavyweights DPR Korea.
And Shang knows his side will have to be on their game when they take on the reigning East Asian women’s champions, who he believes have made considerable developments in recent years.
"Japan have improved a lot," he said. "Their female team is similar to the men’s team in that they are good at passing and controlling play.
"The biggest improvement in the Japan team is their technical ability and organisation but I believe we are stronger and faster and I am sure it will be a great game.
"I believe we are going in the right direction for Chinese football. It is important we keep the spirit of the team high and I believe we can perform well at the Olympics."
Japan coach Norio Sasaki, meanwhile, believes it will be a great boost for his side's Olympic hopes if they can overcome the challenge of China and reach the final of the Asian Cup.
"This is good preparation for us for our Olympic campaign and hopefully we can continue to do well and reach the final," he said.
"We have had two days off before the game so that has helped to improve the condition of the players.
"We have had to look after the players due to the weather and the humidity so we have been concentrating on getting ourselves ready rather than thinking about our opponents.
"But it is important we give 100 per cent. The semi-final will give our players more valuable experience and if we win the competition it will give us the responsibility of being Asian champions going into the Olympics."

barbieri is unbelievable, when you consider that her height is about 5'0" (well, a shade more than that but she is small), but her reflexes are insane, she's a great keeper.

I heard one of the commentators after the previous game describe Barbieri as 'out of form'.
Maybe she was coming down with something? Or maybe she was just dropped.
Mind you, N Korea were always going to have us for breakfast. They are just a better team.
