TASHKENT: Uzbekistan League leaders Bunyodkor, former known as Kuruvchi, laid the foundation stone for a new stadium in the presence of Barcelona FC President Joan Laporta and Uzbekistan Football Federation President Mirabror Usmanov recently.

The new 35,000-capacity stadium will be built in the heart of Uzbekistan capital Tashkent.

Laporta also signed an agreement with Bunyodkor under which a friendly match between the two clubs will be played in Tashkent and the AFC Champions League quarter-finalists will visit the Barcelona facilities some time this season.

Laporta, 46, also visited the UFF headquarters and learnt about the development of the game in this Central Asian country.

“I have had good reports about Uzbek football. I know that Bunyodkor can contribute positively to Asian football. I hope our cooperation with this club will influence the development of football in Uzbekistan,” he said.

They were only founded in 2005, not like a huge history is being lost or anything.

Here's a bad english translation from their website...

A few minutes to end semifinal match between clubs Kuruvchi – AGMK, management of PFC Kuruvchi announced to spectators at the stadium MHSK these words: Dear fans of football, starting from this day Kuruvchi is changing his name and from this day club will renamed as Bunyodkor.

Everyone in stadium surprised without exception from this news. In probably what was a reason of the management of swallows to rename club?

And for this question gave answer Vice-president of the club Tavakkal Ismailov:

Kuruvchi founded in middle of 2005 and in the beginning club had an amateur status. At the beginning club was found for members one of our structures for worker-builders and to visit football matches when they had a free time and to watch beautiful matches and share victory of their team together and relax their nerves after hard work. In a word we tried to organize for them spare time and I think with the given task we completely satisfied.

In each year Kuruvchi grows to the top with high progress. In a short time we have progressed and conquered high positions in Uzbekistan but in Asia too. Progressing in sport results we reached to a level which should satisfied in modern professional football club. Taking into account all stage of changes and novelties in the history of our club we decided to rename club to Bunyodkor, - said Tavakkal Ismailov.

By the way club logotype changed too.

So dear fans with a new title!

Bunyodkor play for FANS!

Great signing for them, obviously gunning for ACL glory.
