frankston 1 -0 richmond. try as we did , pounded and bombarded frankston goal for half an hour after they went down to 10 men, still couldnt equalise. ball was cleared off the goal line easily half a dozen times. crowd 150 ppl no bull****. even the canteen was ****, a hamburger with the lot was meat and tomato pffft good laugh though
Mate, gotta concede the canteen is pretty sad at the moment. Don't know if you noticed, but the new BBQ they are building has the biggest plate in the southern hemisphere. For the record, they don't sell hamburgers, that was a Scotch sausage in a roll. I usually get the snags. The crowd was pretty low, official figure was just over 300. As it was a Richmond home game, most of the local fans climbed the fence behind the players race.
Richmond team looked like a bunch of dwarfs, which didn't help their cause. How many corners were cleared in the air by the big Pines number 2. Had to feel for Nicky Waite late in the game. The big guy put in some yards after we went down to 10 men, and was blowing harder than Cyclone tracy. Gotta say, I was glad to hear the final whistle. Richmond U21s look pretty good (7-2). Number 22 would have to be considered for next week. He was a big strong boy, which was what the seniors lacked.

Looking at the VPL squads there have been some interesting additions for this season:

-Oakleigh Cannons: Bill Damianos, Steve Laurie, Esala Masi
Damianos, Laurie and Masi are all former NSL players.

-Heidelberg Utd: Aaron Westervelt, Frank Lagana
Westervelt was with Adelaide United in the NSL and has just returned from playing in Greede, while Lagana played for Empoli in Italy

-Richmond: Nick Crossley, Brendan Beni
Crossley is in line for Australian Under 20 selection and played with Adelaide United previously

-Kingston City: Michael Turnbull, Steve Iosifidis, Con Anthopoulous, Marcus Stergiopoulos, Nick Tolios, Alex Kiratzogolou, Joe Di Iorio, Michael Curcija
The promoted side have made some very interesting signings. Turnbull is of course the former Marconi keeper who has represented Australia at various levels and has returned from Standard Liege. Di Iorio is a former Australian Under 17 player who had a stint at Werder Bremen, while the others all played in the NSL.

-Melbourne Knights: Marco Maisano
Played in the Netherlands and Scotland for a number of years.

-Sunshine Georgies: Izzy Erdogan
Former Melbourne Knights player in the NSL.

-South Melbourne: Tansel Baser, Kevin Nelson, Jonas Salley
Baser has returned after a number of years in Turkey. Nelson is from Trinidad & Tobago and is a slight chance to make their World Cup Squad, both Adelaide Utd and Sydney FC were interested in signing him. Jonas Salley is a player from the Ivory Coast.

YEAH ME AND REVOLUTION WENT TO THE PINES V RICHMOND GAME AND IT WAS BORING IN THE WAY OF FOOTBALL, UNTIL IT STARTED GETTING PHYSICAL, and the pines keeper got subbed cos of a knee injury. pines red carded and goaled. more dust ups even an all in in the pines net (apart from the richmond keeper)the reserve keeper was man of the match for mine as he hadnt played for 2 years apparently in first team goals.(what does that say about richmonds finishing. Or the depth and desire of frankston.

Fawkner had one shot that i can remember, and even then Deano dealt with it easily. Crowd was crap, 650 my guesstimate-

Clarendon Corner (or whatever it is): gone massively downhill. First half i could only laugh at their p1ss poor attempts at chanting. I was standing 50meters from them -could hardly hear. Second half they were better, but still not very good.

Markovski - BACK TO DRAWOING BOARD. Chillico was USELESS yet took 75mins to realise this. Nana Addo should have started instead of MArkovski.

Fawkner really missed Ognenovski, Sillic and Petrovski.

BTW - Nelson was ordinary. I expected alot more. How the hell he wants to play at world cup i dont no. Did nothing of note. Scored yes, but it was a free header. Didnt impress me much.

Fu(k oath we hate the cnut. Back in the NSL days he used to taunt the crowd with his political *****. To make things worse after that kind of stuff he would attempt to destroy the club and its fans in the papers. Just before the 1997/8 grand final he went to the papers saying that he feared for his and his family's life. Please as if, what a fu(kwit. This aint Europe or South America.

More importantly though, South definitely deserved to win. We were better particularly in the second half and I think the team did well to keep Fawlkner essentially chanceless for 90 mins. Entire defence where good and Fernado de Moraes was excellent, his crossing in particular. If Fawkner keep playing like that they are in danger of relegation particularly since the georgies won today.

Yeh, that claim was a little bit dramatic and premature but fawkner were terrible tonight. Seriously dude, if I were a player at fawkner I would be pissed off at Markovski. He is a liability to that team that shouldnt play 5mins let alone 80 like he did today. He drags his ass around and the team has to carry him. I dont know if you saw this but in the second half he lost the ball and instead of chasing to win it back just stood there and let our boy I believe it was Tsirtis run into the box unopposed creating a chance for the goal. Any coach that sees that kind of thing from their players would be furious. But I guess he cant yell at himself.

How do people sit their and say their was 600 or less then 1,000 ppl?

The crowd was around the 2,000 mark, stadium fits 16,000 ffs. Fawkner had about 10 fans and their team is ordinary, we didnt play that good but should have put 3 past them at least, last 20 mins one way traffic with south storming home as they did last week.

Preston got done 4-1... south topping the table.

Blackmissionary
February 12th, 2006, 10:35 PM
South weren't at their best, often taking at least 2-3 passes too many to get it forward allowing Fawkner to get back in numbers, but Fawkner were very ordinary overall. Offensively there was occasionally some spark, but defensively, an absolute rabble. The game was better than the Bergers-South game, much more open and a lot more ball being played on the ground, but South clearly the better side today, and it seems that every game i've seen them play so far this year, it takes them 65-70 minutes to really start playing well.

February 12th, 2006, 10:46 PM
Cannot believe that Preston got pumped by that much. too bad....so sad :D

South have got a lot of improving too do. By and large they were pretty ordinary tonight. It seems to me that the team lifts when Tsirtis is put on. Happened today and last week. When he comes on there is a lot more run and creativity coming through the midfield. Karavitis has to get in to the game more and Nelson despite scoring with a well taken header was a little lost at times. But this is only round two so the team can only improve. Hopefully....anyway.

Well i recall us playing fawkner at bjs on mothers day last year and todays crowd was more then double. On that occasion the crowd was roughly 800 ppl, this time around grandstand, behind goals, and opposite end many many more people, reminded me of a match against parramata power in the wet in 2001 where the crowd was very similar, definately close to 2,000 but i'd pay anythin in between 1500-2000, the boxes were full as well people forget to count those a few extra hundred up there. I saw bjs at its most empty last yr on some occasions, today was very good compared to that, just need to keep those crowds for the teams that dont bring travelling fans.

Ridiculous guestimate, figure between 2000-2500. Superb when considering the game was against Fawkner.

2500 Sounds right to me. Those who estimate under 1000 going to the game yesterday are not familiar with BoB Jane Stadium.

What was he doing out there? He can barely run, he can't turn, spent more energy in the melee, he's potentially taking the spot of some young player, and apart from the space he was taking up, it was like Fawkner were playing a man down for much of that game. Was it ego? Is he some kind of masochist, knowing it'll probably be the last game he plays at BJS? Did Fawkner have absoluteky no one else they could put in his place?

We had two young up and coming strikers on the bench. Nana Addo - young black kid that came on for Chillico - has already scored 2 goals in the Crazy Johns Cup, and scored 2 on his VPL debut rd26 last season. I was very suprised he wasnt in the team. Also, he could have played Sapa up front, pushed Siljanovksi into AM and had Madarovski play CM role.

IMO he was ok first half. Threw his body around, intimidated a few players, especially Salley, who after first 20mins started losing all headers as jonesy was jumping into him. But second half was terrible.

Ive heard that SAsha Ognenovski was sick. He was on the bench but didnt even have a kick at h-t, instead just sat down on the bench.

Other key injuries:
Mark Silic - last yrs B and F runner up, Steve Tilovski - Captain (dont no if he is injured sick etc), Zoran Petrevski - Last seasons top scorer

It cant all be sponsors.

What are your player payments? What are your other expenses (e.g. stadium lease)? How many pokies do you have (e.g. Green Gully)? Pines for example probably need 3 or 4 of grand out of the gate. If the rumours are true, Kingston would need triple that...A lot of clubs make a fair whack out of their juniors as well.
Pretty much all the VPL clubs have wealthy members that will just foot the bills as required.

Our group chose the Knights game v E. Royals, 1-1, not a bad game , the pitch was poor and the markings (for VPL standards) but an end to end game at times saw the Knights fail to capitalise on there advantages . We will be at Green Gully next week. We intend to support VPL when possible

Addo was ok, but generally everytime Fawkner looked like they were going to get into a really good position, a South defender would appear almost out of nowhere and steal the ball. Honestly, it was quite bizarre, i've never seen that happen so many times in one game before.

I heard 2nd hand that a few of the players had the flu...don't know if this is true, but he was fat when he was playing, so I could only imagine the shape he is in now...:)

A wit near me called out to Markovksi, "have you called Jenny yet?". And of the course there were the obligatory "feed Markovski" chants as well amongst the general vitriol thrown his way. And it's true, he's always been a big player, but he probably wouldn't be able to cut it in a veteran's comp the way he looks and especially his attitude, it was awful.

From what i can remember, there were no stands, just a railing like every other provvy and state league ground. Can't remember if we're talking about the same ground though.

How come teams play each other at other teams home ground? For e.g, Essendon and Sunshine are playing at the Veneto Club this weekend? Why's that, or was it just a typo in the article?

Essendon are playing all home games at the Veneto Club this season, like they did last season, as their grond is being used for Commonwealth games, and needed to be upgraded.

Richmond are playing away gamesfor first 5rounds or whatever because their ground isnt up to VPL standard, and untill it is they cant play at home....thus losing $$$.

Is the FFV lobbying the state governemnt for funding to help Richmond and Essedon??

Essendon was part of Comm Games - paid for by gov't.

Unsure on richmond. But their ground is shocking (not the pitch - facilites). No car parking, too small etc.

Reggio Calabria club (where Essendon is) are doing very, very nicely out of the Commonwealth games. If the $$$ are used wisely it should become quite a good venue in the future.

South were shocking tonight. Defence was a shambles and there was nothing working up front. Nelson got taken off in the 2nd half, didn't do much. No offence to the guy, but HIGHLY unlikely to see him in the World Cup, let alone Victory. Seen him in pre season and today...

blah, blah, blah.... we are a true soccer club, not a franchise. ...blah, blah, blah....i doubt u'd see Danny Allcrapp score against the south defence.blah, blah, blah....These imports have come over to impress and hopefully win a spot with an A-League team.....blah, blah, blah....leave this thread for the true victorian football fans..
Point 1: You lost to Kingston.
Point 2: Your club is a shadow of what it was.
Point 3: Even Danny would have scored (three or four) against you last night.
Point 4: Your imports aren't impressing anyone, though I here the Frankston Strikers (SL3) might take your Jamaican.
Point 5: Your defence looks pretty average to me, even by VPL standards.
Point 6: Even your own supporters know what I say is true. I heard them say it...

I agree with you, last night South played like a bunch of girls. To Kingston's credit we underestimated their game plan.

We are better then that. 3-0 hurts. That's football.

Congratulations on making it down. You see it's not that bad. The facilities were below par but hopefully Kingston put the money they earned to good use.

Kingston's facilities are horrible but made more chances then South did and got the gold for it.
Clarendon Corner gradually got softer and softer until the third goal when they fecked off.
Nelson hurt himself before half time but wasn't all that impressive.
He is quick though.
